Third in IW's 'Mark Renton' series of novels. Set ten years after the second novel Trainspotting. After enjoying Skagboys I just jumped straight into this for more shenanigans by the lads from Leith. Lots of laughs and a decent enough story, all rolled up in the rapier wit and rhythmic register of Welsh's writing style.

I read this book quite a while ago. I'm not sure why you are so disparaging about the book FC.

I thought the subject matter and continuation of characters/ story lines from Trainspotting was err... spot on!

Though I appreciate that Mr Welsh's graphic delvings into the more extreme nefarious carryings-on of certain sections of society might provoke misgivings in some people.

I didn't enjoy it and I thought the story was incredible and tedious and so, when comparing with Trainspotting, I decided I think it's shite.

Welsh is a literary god but that book's far from his best IMO.

An incredible story?

Have you read "Filth", the one with the talking tapeworm that would have been living in shite...

You must have hated that one!

I jest! So what are our hopes and fears for Trainspotting 2?

Actually PM I really did dislike Filth but I felt it was let down by the plot as much as anything, plus the very dislikeable protagonist in the story.  Fair dos though, it's a long long time ago since I read it, I thought the film wasn't a bad effort.

Can you not just accept that I don't like everything I'm 'supposed' to?

Can't wait for Trainspotting 2 though I'm really not sure what to expect.  I know it isn't a straight adaptation of Porno and that it's the original team who've made it, so that's promising.

Shite? Really Codge? The only thing I could remotely point a finger at would be the story wasn't that amazing, but I thought the whole caper-like plot was just a vehicle for the continuation of the characters. Within the first sentence of a chapter you would know if it was a Nikki, Spud, Renton, Begbie, or Sick Boy narrated chapter. I loved the Spud narratives because it's like his own language, all the Leith rhyming slang and the overwhelming good nature of the bloke. I found it a pleasure to read, very funny.

Wouldnt say that. All about opinions and all that. Each to their own.
The same as two people can watch a game of football and both see it in a completely different way to the other i guess.

I said it, it's my opinion, no offence or challenge intended.
