Just had a few nights here. Richard III was 'ere blah blah blah. But now home to several top rate (I'm assuming they are) racing stables. Market square was running amok with decent looking nags. Must say I was impressed how well mannered the jockys were as well. Everyone said hello.

Nice place Middleham. Four pubs and Leyburn close by (only 1 taxi driver - Nobby).

Just like village life should be for me. Could easily live there.

Definitely a recommendation although it will get very bust in summer.

Great drive from Kettlewell as well. Shat the wife up on the single track back road with snow on the tops. Great fun.

Ha! Ta for posting H. What a coincidence. I was supposed to be going there today but the annual Middleham Open Day has been cancelled. Every year they have an open day on Good Friday where the public can go to the various yards in and around Middleham and events are held. Like at Mark Johnstons training yard. He has approx 200 horses in training and members of the public get to watch the horses going through their daily fitness work on the gallops and then can go to the stables to get reeeeeally close to these athletes. This then is usually topped off with an outside bar, food, and a Q and A with the man himself. As an ex-veterinarian and a successful trainer at the very top levels it's great for racing fans to get the opportunity to speak to him and other trainers like Mickey Hammond etc. and to see these amazing animals in such a beautiful part of Yorkshire. They have been training horses in this part of Britain since Moses was a lad. Glad you enjoyed your trip. I'll be there this time next year.
