shocking performance by Leeds - Walford FC were there for the taking but could've and should've won by three with Kisnorbo's individual errors gifting their goal and an injury time penalty to them.... but the football God's smiled on Leeds didnt they?

Watford's pen hit the post and in the 95th minute their defender panicked and gave Leeds the getouttajail card of a penalty which Snod converted to send the visiting fans into delirium MOT

sounds like we should be happy with the point.

Suspect that Paddy would have gone the way of Naylor if SG had two centre backs he could trust.

full report to follow but we were way off our best. Watford were big powerfull and full of running. They smothered us out of the game all over the park but we never gave up right up to the last seconds and that was enough to get us the point

in fact the more i think about it the more i think how great our defending was. yeah Watford (The golden boys ffs) dominated but didn't create any gilt edged chances.

Bit late, soz peeps

Ten past eight we rolled away from Elland Rd south towards the Mi. The city sky line to our left glowing like embers reflecting the rising amber winter sun ahead barely managing to elevate itself from its slumber below the horizon. By the time we had reached London Colney for our stop off at the splendid Bull it had crawled to its seasonal  peak barely higher than the tree line giving the huge bare willow outside the pub an appearance of a bail of golden green hay. Three good pints of black sheep and a buffet lunch later we were passing through the gentile suburbs of Watford to the ground. The old away end is now encased with apartments overlooking the allotments to the rear. The terrace to our left inside the ground is still decrepit and unused but the rest of the terraces are neat colourful in gold and red.

From the starting line up it was clear we were going 4-4-2. Keogh and Becchio up front, Clayton pugh in central midfield, Kiz and Lees at the back with Snods, Sam White and Connolly along the channels. Some endlessly tedious techno drivel  whipped the crowd into wandering slumber as the teams came out. Our full 2000 allocation of tickets occupying half of the North stand behind the goal and the game got underway with us defending the goal in front of us.

Watford immediately launched a high ball into the box that we eventually cleared and McCarthy picked up the punt back in before rolling out to Connolly. The signs were Watford were resorting to stereotype. Pugh was caught in midfield and Watford pressed getting throw ins and corners. Kiz was looking commanding but it was clear he was going to be central to this bruising encounter. Thankfully he is not one to shirk a battle and made good interceptions following Watford crosses and a ball back into the box after we only half cleared an attempted overhead kick.

We tried to build down our left but Pugh's control let him down. White made a good block to stop the counter attack. More good work on our left followed before the ball found Snods on the other wing whose cross was blocked. Another decent Snods cross followed that was met by Becchio whose shot was hit high but it was enough to spark a WAL from the fans.

It was Watfords turn to attack and we dealt with it but Snods couldn't quite get hold of the clearance and back they came. This time Kiz had more good defending to do and along with the others was holding the line well but it was the home side asking all the questions.

The Watford keeper tried to help our cause momentarily fluffing a back pass but was able to recover. It was our best effort so far. Clayton mis hit a pass to Snods after good holding work from Becchio and nothing seemed to be coming off for our central mid field pair.

Snods hit a decent 20 yard effort when he had no other options on. Sam was ineffective but forced a corner prompting more chants but we never really attacked the delivery into the box.

Kiz made a brave diving header to clear setting up a break but Becchio was tackled and Watford stung us with the counter attack. Knightly was allowed to press and he tucked a great shot from outside the box just inside the post to make it 1-0 to Watford.

The ref nullified our gusto from the re start ordering a bizarre drop ball that took the steam out of our retaliatory response. Pugh lost possession and Watford broke thankfully taking the wrong option that enabled us to clear .

Keogh's first touch had deserted him but we kept finding Sam on the wing. White made the occasional forage but all we could force were throw ins and the odd corner as Watford closed us down very effectively. We did manage a great move as the  half drew to a close but instead of hitting the shot we tried to walk it in with snods eventually chipping over the bar. We did finish the half quite strong mounting attacks but no end product perfectly summarised when Sam fell over after making a great run into the box.

The second half started with the lights going out around us in the stand. We glow in the Dark came the chant. Clayton made a careless header to no one but moments later a half chance fell to Becchio who could only scuff the half volley on the turn wide.

Clayton was involved in a good build up with Sam and won a free kick. Watford cleared but again we chose not to hit a shot when we had chance. Watford then had a corner claim for a blatantly deflected shot as a period of frustration came for us. We were getting caught in possession particularly in the middle of the park and McCarthy had to come out sharp to break a move up. By now Sam was getting a fair bit of disgruntlement around us after giving possession away again and chants of Ross McCormack grew.

Two poor deadball kicks put us under pressure just before Sam and Keogh made way for McCormack and the Finish lad. Becchio was immediately involved in a skirmish as frustration spread onto the pitch. Finally we mounted some concerted pressure as we chased the equaliser. Good approach was ruined by poor final balls or decisions plus Watfords robust and very effective defending and pressure. Discord was beginning to appear amongst the crowd.

White tried a surge down the left as Pugh dropped to left back. Good possession around Watfords box came to an end as Snods lost possession and the clock counted down the minutes. Watford were still working very hard chasing us down everywhere. Some boos rang out as another pass went astray and Watford broke. McCarthy was quickly out again to prevent danger. Back at our end Becchio screwed another half chance wide after White delivered into the box. The game was turning ugly as we resorted too often to an aimless high ball.

Becchio chose not to find McCormack who was free to his left and hit high and wide. A seemingly innocuous ball into our box saw Kiz lunge needlessly and concede the killer penalty. McCarthy tipped it onto the post and we cleared. A lifeline perhaps but it still didn't feel like we could capitalise. Watford kept possession brutally and in our own corner but we regained the ball and attacked. Their keeper saved what we thought must be our last chance and it was game over. Then a punt into the box and a header across the box. A flash of Watford boot high in the air and i saw the ref point to the spot. Incredible, it would be like losing twice if we missed and the tension was unbearable. Snods under intense pressure powered the ball in from the spot and the ref blew for full time while it was still spinning in the back of the net.

Much celebration of course along with not a little rueful smiling and shaking of heads. A tad fortunate maybe but the more i think about it the more i am putting it down to another dimension of our team.  We defended grittily and never ever gave up with a belief right to the end that we could score. Watford were big powerful and fast and there are not many teams like them in this division. I think we came away with a very good and earned point

Thanks LD. There's always a few teams in this division with a battering ram approach. Sounds like we did well to get a point.

McCarthy's been a real find - hope we can hang on to him.
