Seeing as our libraries are being somewhat mullered, have you done any literary evenings/afternoons at your local lending establishments Mick?

I hereby invite Mick to host a literary evening in Grunt's book swap club section. You can all meet the author and maybe have a look round while you're there. Wine and snacks will be available if you happen to have any nearby.

Didn't you get a receipt when you checked them out?

That does seem to be a wholly disproportionate amount.

I think all the books taken out at the same time should have been counted as a single item and fined accordingly. (Three quid is a sufficient deterent and reminder - it should not be punitive). You're as likely to forget to renew all five as you are to renew one.

Were they by chance children's books taken out on an adult card? I think children's books on children's card may be exempt/ reduced charge, so that may be a plea.

Perhaps you could contact someone higher up the library food chain at the council who might be more sympathetic and discuss your financially constrained circumstances. I'd imagine the dried up, sexually frustrated "Patty and Selma" types that are typically employed in libraries may derive their limited pleasures in life from punishing a good looking chap like our Mr Forest.

P.S. Perhaps they have an exemption for dead people.

P.P.S. When is your funeral?

P.P.P.S. Eddie wants to know if there is a free bar?

P.P.P.S. Eddie also wants to know when he can pick your van up, what your good lady looks like and would you recommend him having a crack at her?

Tells you the due date on that receipt.  Very disappointed in your sloppy attitude Foz.  nono.gif

These sort of punitive fines might appear appropriate - if you've always been in a position to renew them on time.

Just imagine - perhaps you've been rushed into hospital with cardiac problems, and have spent a week or two hospitalised. Imagine your disappointment when you return your books late and are hit with a large fine.

"But, but you don't understand, I've been hospitalised, there was no internet connection, I and couldn't return the books or renew the loans..." you splutter.

But Patty and Selma counter between fag puffs with, "Ah herr herr... fuck you asshole....That's fifteen quid or we send the bailiffs round. And it will fuck up your credit status, regardless. Ah herr herr... fuck you asshole...."

I do think it always useful to listen to both points of view in these matters.

A little tip.

As books are no longer stamped, write the renewal date on the slip attached to the book yourself.

I'd still suggest appealing to the library top bod's sense of fairness... also try your MP if that fails.

It's actually 20p per day per book, doesn't sound much but it soon adds up.
Two rubbish Michael Connolly thrillers and three books on photography for my daughter which I don't even think she looked at, I wouldn't mind I bet I could have bought the thrillers at one of the many charidee shops in Oakwood for next to nowt.

I haven't actually paid the fine yet, might leave it and see if they ask for it.

Unfortunately, I believe it stays on your record.

In practice that means Patty and Selma will have the opportunity to embarrass you over the fine at every opportunity until kingdom comes.*

*Until they install a new computer that is incompatible with the earlier version and loses all fines owing.
