I listened to most of this yesterday. Bobby Gillespie sitting in for Jarvis Cocker. Some brilliant choices from BG. The thing with him is that he is such an enthusiastic fan of all kinds of music that you get a really good mixed bag of stuff that you may not have ever heard of before. My faves on here are the Willie Nelson song and the ice cold Bobby Bland tune. Best show I have listened to in a while.

Steve Davis is to stand in for Cocker too. Cockatoo.

Quote:
...the "Plumstead potter" has nursed a passion for rock music's LSD-fuelled outer-fringes..."I'd like to play a 60-minute track by the minimalist Australian jazz group The Necks. It's called 'Drive By' and it's brilliant," says Davis

I hereby ban the word 'interesting' from this thread.

Am i being stupid, as per ,but who is his dad?

The music he plays reminds me of the type that Gideon Coe plays but a bit more daring when it comes to new modern dance type stuff.
Really do enjoy him.
Finding some of the day time presenters a tad irritable just recently.
Used to really enjoy shaun Keavney in the mornings but he seems to be right up his own arse . Same with Ms Lavene at times.

I really didnt know that!
He does sound like his dad.
Great taste in music like him also.
Radcliffe and Mac , yes, know what you mean.
Mumbling and stuttering for 3 hrs every afternoon.
Trouble is though i have to listen to 6 at work during the day time as there is nothing else worth bothering with.
Except radio 4 or 5 on the odd occasion.
Those 3 stations or nothing at all for me.

It's definitely got worse during the day, even though George Lamb has been long gone. The consensus is that it's had to become more like Radios 1 and 2 to retain all the listeners it gained when they threatened to shut it down. As long as they don't mess with the evenings I'm not too bothered.

Spend most evenings listening to Marc Riley, he's cool.
Know what you are saying about trying to keep the listeners after the threat of the close down.
Rad and Mac are so like listening to radio 2 its unbearable at times, some of the music they play.
Still, should be gratefull we still have it to listen to at all, hey.

i generally don't mind Radio 2 playing some of its dross, The feeling are (faeces) flavour of the month it seems these days, it's the presenters who do my head in.  Not all of them, just a few who clearly don't know much about music or they're just too fecking keen to share their 'good vibes' and have a laugh and convince us all that they are really really nice and fun people.

Riley is ace     Not heard a show by Peely's lad yet but some of the trailers have been interesting.

Driving me mad these days during the day time.
Just seems like the same old shit play lists.
Dj's so far up their own arses is cringeworthy at times.

Had their top 100 tracks from the past ten years a couple of weeks ago.
A whole day counting down to the song voted for by us, the listeners.
Clocks, by Coldplay.
Really?

Keaveny's the man.

Yes, bloody Clocks, this country is full of twonks judging by that, well twonks who listen to 6Radio anyway.  Fecking Clocks, it's not even THEIR best song.

Downloaded Peel's Festive 50s quite some time back, got them on my ipod thingy now, now THAT's what I call good sounds, man.  Started with 1976 and it's interesting to see that it's all rock or folk/rock sort of stuff, but it's proof that music wasn't completely dead and waiting for punk to resuscitate it, there are some classics on there.

John Lydon sitting in for Jarvis today. A great eclectic mix of some of his favourite records. The one by The Congos is fantastic. Never heard of the band and I'm not much of a Reggae fan but will get some stuff by them. That is all.
