New album is called "Ashes & Fire". It was produced by Glyn Johns ( rocknroll wizard & true gentleman). It has 11 songs on it. I played acoustic on all of them and sang and played live to tape. We recorded the album ALL 100 percent ANALOG ( 2" tape mixed to 1/4" ). A computer didn't touch this album. It has very few overdubs. I gave these songs the most consideration I have ever given and it is certainly the longest amount of time I've spent writing. It was made with total love. Very excited.
Glyn Johns is the producer who made some of the best work with Led Zep, The Who, Elton John and.... Spooky Tooth.
Definite contender for album of year canít stop playing it, it seems just a perfect companion for the time of year and current state of mind. Autumn passing into winter, slightly chilled, slightly introspective and uneasy contentment. A beautiful album, that is all _________________ I guess all songs is folk songs. I never heard no horse sing 'em

Another solo venture for this gig. I've never seen the lad live before and thought it was about time I did. I'm not a massive fan but Gold, Heartbreaker and Ashes are big favourites and i always enjoy reading about him.
Fucking academy though, I'm getting a real dislike for the place, well not so much the place just a lot of the cu next tuesdays who go to gigs there. Big talk metro hipsters who i am absolutely certain do not actually enjoy the music. How can they? Fucking chattering away and constantly doing things with their phones.
Had an ace pint in the Vic then onto the George where i overheard a lad saying Thatcher was a great leader, similar to Winston Churchill. That had me spitting my Leeds pale about my chin much to the mirth of the bar man who gave me a knowing wink. Last one in the very conveniently situated Hedley Verity then into the gig
In he came just after nine and into straight into Gimne Something Good and Let it Ride. I've heard some uncomplimentary things about his latest band but they sounded pretty damm fine to me. Orchestrated but relaxed perfectly aligned to Ryan and blew up a fair old storm when required. Better still they knew when to keep it schtumm for Ryan's personnel moments, a perfectly blurry Dirty Rain for instance.
I'm delighted to report he had a little paddy as well when he promised to kick a kids arse if he carried on taking flash pictures after being told nicely not to. He has some reaction to the flash apparently. Anyway latter in the gig he lightened up and told the lad he wouldn't kick his arse. He'd go up to him and recite a poem. He then shouted "is that banter ?" right across in my direction towards a buffoon who'd been shouting "banter" behind me. I thought i was the only one he was annoying the fuck out of me as well. Honestly it could so easily all go wrong at one if these gigs.
Anyway on with the music, all two hours of it. First time for me as I've said so I've no benchmark but I'm guessing it was an average performance by his standards. Memorable moments for me were Wrecking Ball, I love you but don't know how to say it, Trouble and a duet with support act Natalie prass who only sang back uo harmonies on sweet Carolina. Still warming the memory is a Haunted but eternally Beautiful La Cienega Just Smiled, just meltingly good. Oh and he did what seemed leek a made up on the spot song about a hotel concierge, very quirky.
Don't think they did an encore, i left 22.55 precisely to get the train. Enjoyed the music, sometimes intense, often melancholic as your expect but more rootsy country rock with a touch of self disparaging mockery than i was expecting. Will try a different venue next time.
War on Drugs tonight at the same venue, We'll see how that goes. Big Shaun and Ants aren't in the suffering game like I am _________________ I guess all songs is folk songs. I never heard no horse sing 'em
