I didn't know that, Counting Crows are one of my favourite bands, I had tickets to see them in Liverpool last year but missed them as I had to go away on business. They play Sheffield Academy 26th May and Newcastle 27th May and I'm gonna turn up and try and buy tickets outside.

I was at the Irish Centre gig last July, they were superb.
Regret not getting a ticket for this now, may wander down see if I can get one outside.

Right, who is going to this ?

I have just bought Boys and Girls in America and its good stuff - should be a decent gig in such a small venue.

Me and My mate are coming over on the train, tea time. Get a bite to eat and a few slurps. Butts has the tickets so we'll have to meet him somewhere.

Yes, tickets in hand. I'm in Bolton all day,  getting back on the train about 7 so anytime around then. Will be in a suit unfortunately

Name a pub for 7.15 ish and I'll see you there. Bigbone might be coming down on the off chance he can get a ticket outside.

I could tell you weren't overly knocked out. It wasn't as good as the Irish Centre gig last year, not helped by a bizarre song selection for the first half hour or so. I think the first or second one in was a bonus track from an Australian release of their 3rd LP. Will check on THS forum.

I'm always transfixed by Craig Finn but can understand why he's the reason people dislike the band as much as why many think they're special and different. As LD's mate was saying pre-gig, he doesn't sing - he talks (loudly) and live this can become a bit wearing as he packs so many words into his lyrics that his voice and personality can overwhelm the rest of the band.

They got my goose bumps going eventually, though, on Constructive Summer, Stay Positive and Hoodrat (the second encore). I've never seen a front man put so much into a show (even the Boss) and I love the way he continues to sing (sorry talk) off mike in a constant dialogue with the front rows. He wears his influences on his sleeve, seems genuinely delighted to be doing what he does and gives it his all.

......and the Salvador Dali lookalike can certainly play the piano.

The impromptu gig they did at Mojo on Monday was because their gig in Bournemouth with the Counting Crows was cancelled, apparently. According to the THS forum Finn reckons Leeds reminds him of home which is why they always insist on playing here.

No mate, I enjoyed it, would definitely see them again but was a bit under the weather, I agree with you about Finn, his enthusiasm is infectious, I even thought I imagined hime doing the Leeds salute towards the end.

Had a good night and thanks again to Butts for organising the tickets, he's a star and no mistake. Its my mate whos the big HS fan and I can take them or leave them to be honest. Live music is live music and Iíll watch and enjoy more or less anything.

Thought the sound as usual in the cockpit was cock on. I was worried they might be tempted to crank it up too loud but if anything it could have been a little louder.

He is indeed a compelling front man and despite the absolute barrage of lyrics he was still intelligible. I did lose it a bit amongst the early bits but their main armoury of songs picked me back up again.

Itís the band that really delivers for me and they were bang on the mark. Crystal clear guitars, precision breaks and a fantastic collective understanding which I guess is the result of the incessant touring and a genuine love for playing.

I lied, although the Metro had them down as the support act, they weren't, The Counting Crows were good good good though.
