Sheeps, Whatchya need are decent gears. Dont want to get all technical on yo asses with number of teeth and wheel diameter ratios but to get around here you need the smallest front chain wheel (the one your pedals turn) and a big back cog on the cassette you have on your back wheel. Size is determined by number of teeth. Standard off the peg road bikes just dont hack it with. They have something like a 52/39 chain ring and a rear set having only a 25 tooth large cog. You need something smaller at the front eg a 34 tooth ring and at least two cogs larger than 25 teeth. Of course you sacrifice speed losing the bigger gearing ratio but its well worth it especially round these here hills.

Ah but they do have a transmission system, big wheel at the front, small one at the back. Completely opposite to what i was saying.  Thats why you'll never see froome going up Alp d'huez on one

Did my first thirty miler yesterday. Quite happy to round off the summer hitting that number. Don't know why, just am. Got my thermal cycling tights delivered as well so that's me kitted out to keep on truckin' through winter. Didn't need them yesterday though, brilliant Autumnal sunshine until about five and then it got a bit colder.

And to LD's comment (dont know how to include two quotes sorry)

I am not a big facebook user - I joined so that I could communicate with my daughter when she left for university no matter where I was in the world. And for that, it has been good.  i copied the urls from the facebook videos hoping they would work for all - but apparently not. Thanks for the info gents.

I hope the different link works and that you enjoy the ride!!

Totally misjudged the weather yesterday. Had a base layer and my waterproof cycling trousers on but the sun came out big time two miles into the ride. I was fecking roasting. Still managed a good run though and stopped for a Lucozade about halfway into the ride outside The Light Dragoon in Etton. South Cave to Cherry Burton via Low Gardham and Etton. Then back through Bishop Burton, Walkington Heads, Newbald, Hotham and home. The most knackered I have felt since I started cycling. I'm putting it down to being too hot in the wrong clothing. Phew!

C'mon then lazy feckers! Get the bikes out and get those After Eights burned off!!!. So far in Jan I've done a 10 miler, just to get back in my stride/pedal. And then last Saturday did an 18 miler. I'm dead hardcore me!
