I can supply exact numbers of each if anyone's interested*

There's a chap (seems to be some sort of pub name buff Albert jacks who has written a book on the subject) on radio 2 at the moment just said the most popular name is the Red Lion.

There's only one way to settle this............(for those who saw harry hill)

That is something along the lines of a Cameron/Clegg answer!

Spangled Bull, Kirkheaton. Never heard of another one anywhere

Ace pub spent many an hour there after cricket games. Used to be a whippet racing track near as well. Saw my first pub fight in there. I was about five year old, thought it was Laurel and Hardy pillocking about at first

I have been past the Spangled Bull on my travels - near Dewsbury isn't it?

I had a friend who worked as a barmaid in the Bunch of Carrots Hereford. Not heard of another Bunch of Carrots.

Sort of Dalek. Kirkheaton is on the edge of Hudders, which is very very edgy .

Across the divide is that hinterland betwixt Leeds and Huddersfield hitherto refered to as the Heavy Woolen area. Dewsbury is but a cock stride away.

Thanks for the local knowledge LD.  However, I am  sure this was very close to Dewsbury.

Do you think there could be two Spangled Bulls?

I was staying somewhere near Ossett, the hotel food was not good the previous evening, so I went to drive to find somewhere else the next night.  It was late January, so cold but not a problem. I got stuck in traffic negotiating loads of roadworks, then it started sleeting.  I know that I went through Dewsbury without finding anywhere.  It was at this point I turned round in the yard in front of the pub to abandon my search and thought the pub name was unusual as I had not seen one anywhere else.
I eventually resorted to a chippy I found near the hotel i had left some time before (and they were good!).
