Strange - their upcoming gig in Boston (scheduled for next Tuesday) has been changed to March.

I had a peer on the web and it doesn't seem that it's a problem with the band not being able to perform, but rather that their new album isn't being released in the US until 2012 due to the closure of their US label.

A weird one.

I can't believe you are even thinking of going to watch a band as monumentally shite as the Kaiser Chiefs Grinder. Each to their own n' that but FFS! I personally wouldn't watch them even if they were playing on my front lawn, my telly was bust, and the curtains were at the dry cleaners. Babakaka mediocre bobbins.

I'm off to the Sunday one of their Kirkstall Abbey weekend, under duress a little bit but tempered by The Cribs in support.

Okay. They're not the greatest band ever, but they've a couple of clever(ish) lyrics and a few toe tappers and we don't have any curtains worth dry cleaning.

Are Elbow officially Dock-shit too? I'm seeing them in a couple of weeks?

Frankly, no. I think they are from the same crop of bland shit as Kasabian, Duffy, Keane etc. Music industry-friendly little dullards who's clothes get picked out by stylists and do whatever they need to to shift "units". Suckers of satans cock the lot of em'!

Ruby Ruby Ruby Rubaaaaayy!.............. Just get dead you idiots!

Soz Fozdyke, I'm fencesitting again aren't I.

Like I said Grinder, each to their own mate. Its just my opinion (which usually counts for feck all) Re: Elbow. Pretty good, but a lot of their stuff just sounds like football chants to me.

I'm as guilty of this as the next Leeds United-supporting moron, but it seems human nature to become polarised as to what we think is good and crap musically.

Strange.

As an example, it took me a long time to even vaguely like Talking Heads - I'd decided they were pretentious twunts early on and it took an age to convince me that their music was still okay.

I might be the only person on the planet who still quite likes Chumbawamba - but this has more to do with the fact that I've only heard their musical offerings and haven't paid any attention to how they've behaved.

I'm guessing they sold out early on so I should logically hate 'em.

As I said, strange.

Of course it is. Music is a great divider of opinion and long may it continue. Re: Leeds United. Please, I beg of you, don't tell me you have a fondness for this band just because they take their name from Radebe's old team? Thats would be just be too much. Surely nobody is that blinkered? C'mon Grinder, put me straight on this?

I really liked the Kaisers in the early days (of their success) but Ruby is a pain to hear and their good old stuff sounds just ordinary these days to me.  Seen em 3 or 4 times and the gigs have been the same - it all just washes over me now, and of course whatever originality they had has been squeezed out of them as well as been copied by many other average bands.

Cribs, now that at least is what you can call a live band who give it their all.  Kaisers have had their day, and no that is not a quote from Mein Kampf

I haven't been hugely taken by the new album and even the last one was okay in patches.

I have to admit the Leeds connection may have helped a little bit - much in the same way I despise Simply Red?

I sometimes listen iliketrains because they're local and Deltics might be involved.

Interesting this.

This was something I discussed with some serious music types at a 6Music gathering last month. I've been accused of musical snobbery quite a few times if only because it's one of my passions and I enjoy swapping opinions. I wouldn't have a go at anyone for liking anything though and when I've had a dig at Coldplay/Snow Patrol et al it's (hopefully) been done with tongue in cheek. I've had plenty of people sneer when I let slip my love of Springsteen.

What I can't understand, though, are people who close their ears to anything new. I just can't understand it full stop. To embrace new culture (not just music) or to discover old stuff for the first time is the easiest way to keep your life fresh and interesting, takes no effort at all, just an open mind and a set of ears.

Seriously, anyone who sneers at anyone else for their musical tastes is just showing their self up as a prick.  And NO I do not mean anyone on here, I mean in life in general.

And whilst he's far from my fave, how can anyone criticise someone for liking Springsteen?

Like I said right at the start, each to their own. I was slagging the KC's as a band, and not Grinder for liking them. And as far as I know on here its still ok to slag stuff off you don't like. If it isn't then I expect every bad thing posted about the Bee Gee's to be removed with immediate effect.

Another thing I've experienced is a certain amount of embarrassment at not particularly liking bands that, based on other stuff I listen to and enjoy, I find that I just can't get into. Weird.

I guess I'm a bit of a creature of habit when it comes to music and need quite a bit of exposure to new stuff before it clicks to the extent that I then search it out.

This forum has been great for me - I spend most of my day listening to the equivalent of Radio 4, but usually have a click on the videos posted here as they will usually have something going for them. I've bought a few albums simply based on Reg Recs.

I don't mind them. Certainly don't switch the radio over when they come on. At least they write 'tunes' and have a bit of energy.
Unlike some of the incomprehensibly popular bands full of earnest-looking hirsute young men in check shirts who sit down on stage looking disinterested whilst twanging their banjos.
