Wimbledon 2010

It that time of year again for all you Tennis Reggies to keep an eye on the grumpy Scot (Murray, not TG). Not my thing at at all, but I hope you all enjoy it! That is all!
Tank Girl

while you're all booing at footballers and being all anti scottish, federer has just dropped the first 2 sets of his opening match.
Tank Girl

my god i think federer is about to go out? this other chap has got break point in the 3rd set and 2 sets up.

oooh, saved it. tie break in the post tho chaps.
Butts

He's just won the 4th set tiebreaker easily and is a serve up in the 5th Looks like a blip.
Butts

The spirit of Dan Maskell is alive and well on the BBC's text commentary.

Federer tucks a stray strand of hair back behind his hairband, blows softly on his fingertips and crouches low. That drop-shot has been a weapon all day long, and it takes him to another break point - saved on the stretch with a well set up overhead by Falla. A flicking backhand catches the Colombian leaden-footed to set up another - saved with another - before the tension is broken by a stray ball battering into the body of an unlucky line judge. Falla goes wide into the right-hand tramlines to offer up another break point - taken with a devastating backhand drive down the line. Falla's brave resistance may just have been broken for good.

Good spot, Butts. He was ace, Dan Maskell.

"Ooooh, I say! What a dream of a volley! What a glorious lob!"

He was certainly economical with words. Sometimes you wondered whether he'd died.

Had a bit of a thing about Virginia Wade I seem to remember. Or was it Evonne Goolagong.
Sir Bulldog Craggwood

I will watch the mens final and in the meantime look out for any top grunting female fitties in the mould of Sharapova or Kournikova!!!

apart from that i find it a total waste of time

I would normally have bile coming out of my ears for this shower but that football has got me so angry this will have to go without my hatred this year.
Butts

Mahut v Isner currently at 59 -58 in the fifth set

Longest match in Grand Slam history
Butts

Suspended at 59-59 for the night.

i've had an unsolicited match report from mrs f.

she wants the frog to win. Fair dos to those guys though. They've earned their cash.

No matter how shite our football team is, they will never approach the ineptitude of our tennis players. They are an absoulute fucking embarrassment. They must make zillions out of Wimbledon each year and where does it go.

My particular least favourite is latest ten minute wunderkind Laura Robson carking off on Twitter about other tennis players being sluts

Win something first you stupid posh bint.
Forest

She has nice legs though and she's apologized for the 'slut' comments.
bearing

She's Australian anyway

usual story. Too rubbish to make it in her native country so she comes over here and we pay for her to spend the bloody winter in Tenerife or somewhere (and her family probably).

i read somewhere that the Wimbledon organisers will relegate ugly seeded women players to the court 44 and put a nice looking girl with no chance on the centre court to attract more male viewers.

Not sure if it applies the other way round.

The quality that these two players were still putting out after that time on the court was amazing. Its a shame eiter has to lose.
Butts

Murray through in straight sets.

He bowed before the Queen of England today. In effect renouncing his Scottishness and pledging his allegiance to a path of righteousness.

the things some people will do for an MBE
Tank Girl

murray is playing at about 5pm tomorrow, i expect you all to be rooting for him.
i supported england after all so fairs fair.
Sir Bulldog Craggwood

of course i'll be supporting Murray although the game bores me - in my version of hell i'll be made to watch that 11 hour match

So you will have missed the tennis player spitting at the crowd? Oh I say!
Pond Life

Andy Murray becomes the only man to reach the quarter-finals at Wimbledon without dropping a set as he beats American Sam Querrey in round four.

Well done. Wish i had an England flag with Murrays face on it for the car.
Butts

Federer out.
Tank Girl

murray in he semis against nadal.

maybe he will give the country the lift our footballers failed to?
bearing

The Cricketers are doing that too TG, well done to the very North Englishman.

How's the swingometer doing Clacks?
Tank Girl

no offence to the cricketers but i imagine murray winning wimbledon would be more momentous?
just becuase we never win there and its such a british institution.
maybe im wrong and i think that just becuase i dont really notice cricket apart from the ashes.

he's got a real chance if nadal doesnt mollocate him.
lebowski

You've got to feel that for Murray to beat Nadal, he will have to be completely on top of his game and Rafa would have to have an off day.

Tsonga was looking good for a win in the first two sets, he's explosive and powerful and Murray was struggling with that.

Tsonga couldn't keep that standard up for long enough but Nadal will be able to. It would be great if Murray won, all of this England v Scotland stuff is way overstated.
bearing

The cricket is against the Aussies though TG, that's pretty big news.
Butts

The current series with the Aussies is really just a warm-up for the Wlrld Cup next year. The Ashes will be different. I would put Murray winning Wimbledon second to England winning the WC - it's been longer than that and in a year when every other British player went out in the first round would be incredible. He certainly seems to have benefiited from the no-hype/expectations this year.
Pond Life

England win the world cup in football - massive.

Murray wins Wimbledon with England WC victory is massive news.

Murray wins Wimbledon without England WC victory is bigger news.

Cricket for me,forgive me cricket fans, would rank a lower victory.

We have had successes at the cricket. The nation does not yearn for a cricket victory like it does in football and Wimbledon. Not tennis as a whole, just that one.
bearing

I really couldn't give a toss who wins Wimbledon, unless Goran is playing (which he ain't)

i am not so sure that's fair on Murray.

He and Nadal have played each other 4 times in grand slams and it is 2-2.
he has beaten him twice in semi finals to get in the finals of the us and somewhere else i cant remember where. i am not certain but i think one of those times nadal might have been nursing his fragile physical state.
in any event, it is players like tsonga he seems to struggle with more than  nadal and especially federer, his record against federer is excellent but just not in finals which to me says he has the game. it is all about his head at this level.

I dont know what the  england v scotland stuff is about? i wasnt aware of any.
Pond Life

But every time Murray scores a point you shout in my face "In your face wee Englishman" and "Away with you!"

OK, I give up on reasoned discussion, Nadal is going to hammer him.

You know it TG.

OK we're just about ready here... Come on Andy, sock it to that muscle-bound piece of eye candy!!! (that rhymes   )

yeuch.
Tank Girl

has he just had his serve broken, bloody hell.

we've had all streaming banned due to internet collapse during world cup last week.
Butts

First set points to Nadal.
Tank Girl

fucksocks
Butts

That whole set hinged on one point/ one rally. Murray is playing very well.
Butts

BBC now showing Nadal changing his shirt in slow motion.
Butts

The umpire is Brazilian. Hope he hasn't heard the score.
Pond Life

Murray out.
bearing

How Scottish is he now Clacks?

Thank Christ for cricket.
grunt

Nadal is just too good isn't he. I like that he's more humble than that smug git Federer and also does much more entertaining facial expressions .
Butts

The whole thing was so deflating from the beginning of the second set I lost the will to post.
Tank Girl

i am finished with all british sportspeople apart from lewis hamilton.

end of bulletin.
fartcatcher

Nadal's left forearm is twice the girth of his right forearm which gives him an unfair advantage. He's like one of those crabs with a huge pincer on one side and a normal one on the other.

Hamilton? The biggest turncoat since Alger Hiss? The tax avoiding swiss-shit! NO REPRESENTATION WITHOUT TAXATION!!!
grunt

The BBC coverage is so insecure it's pathetic.

"What does Wimbledon mean to you? Go on it's a bit better than all the others isn't it? Please say you love us the best. Did you dream of playing on centre court when you were growing up? And now you're here it's better than you could have imagined. It really is the ultimate isn't it? Go on say it. SAY IT!!"
Tank Girl

they all do though, dont they.
grunt

They do, it's just that bit more annoying when Sue Barker does it.
Fin

Radio 5 live spent most of the Murray Nadal match commenting on David Beckham and wether he was going to the toilet or to get his son an ice cream
bearing

Who's Murray Nadal then?

Odd name if ever I saw one.
