Trainspotting 2 Trailer

Many would pick Pulp Fiction, and a great choice it is, but for me the cinematic event of the 1990's was Trainspotting. If the sequel is anywhere near as good as this trailer this is going to be fucking mega! Check it:

Yep, seen the trailer too and think that it looks good. It's just that feeling that you get that the film won't live up to the expectations of the first one. Irvine Welsh seems to think it's better.. Porno, the book is ace. But so is Trainspotting.  Prolly my favourite book of all time.  But books are that much better than films to me. Hope this one will be a good one but..

Don't rate the book TBH (Porno) but this film isn't just Porno is it?  Am looking forward to it anyway, just like I do kind of with Bond movies and Alien ones.

I haven't read the sequel to Trainspotting but I'm currently reading the prequel: Skagboys, I'm halfway through and its a stonking good read. I read Trainspotting, The Acid House, and Marabou Stork Nightmares ages ago and then for some reason didn't bother with any IW books for ages. So glad to have bought Skagboys. Welsh's style of writing in the vernacular of that particular area of Scotland is a joy. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed reading his stuff.

I don't think they would have done a follow up film without some serious quality control on it. I don't think it's going to be half-arsed. Looking forward to it. Defo a cinema job.

Skag Boys is a great read. Take a look at Porno. It's well worth a look. Ecstasy is OK too.  Short stories dark but funny.

Nice one Badger. I will look at both of them, and Blade Artist which you reviewed in the book section. Does Blade Artist delve much into Begbies personal history? I'm fascinated to know what got that lad to where he is in Skagboys and Trainspotting. On the face of it a complete psychopath, but there are glints of someone who is the most loyal mate the rest of them will ever have. I love his chapters in Skagboys. Shocking but sometimes laugh-out loud hilarious. As is the rest of the book.

Blade Artist will tell you all that you need to know about, Beggbie.  And more. One of life's proper, horrid, cunts. Even to his mates at times. But this book gives you a real understanding of why he is who he is/was..
Would be great if Welsh could do a book on each character and where they are now in their lives.
He has so many colourful ones to choose from.

A few reviews and comments about the sequel:

Darent look lest it gives anything away. One of my pet hates these days is the fecking trailors they put on the end of a program that tells you what is going to happen in the next one.

Renton's reworked 'Choose Life' monologue:

“Choose life
Choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares
Choose looking up old flames, wishing you’d done it all differently
And choose watching history repeat itself
Choose your future
Choose reality TV, slut shaming, revenge porn
Choose a zero hour contract, a two hour journey to work
And choose the same for your kids, only worse, and smother the pain with an unknown dose of an unknown drug made in somebody’s kitchen
And then… take a deep breath
You’re an addict, so be addicted
Just be addicted to something else
Choose the ones you love
Choose your future
Choose life”

Pretty good design for life if you ask me........I know you won't.

Going to go see this next Saturday.
Not expecting it to be as good as the first one. how could you? A true cult film for the 90's generation.
Still not convinced that a second one should have been made. But i guess the original cast wouldnt have touched it if it wasnt any god, hey.

Watched Trainspotting DVD again in readiness for T2 soon, I hope.

Heard a few criticisms that it hasn't aged well but it's only the baby on the ceiling which looks to me slightly naff special effects.  The scenes are generally too short, it's almost a collection of sketches!  Watched the Deleted scenes too and given that the flick is around 90 minutes long (too short), a couple of those scenes could easily have been included to add to the film and story rather than hinder them.

Forgot how great the performances are, from Ewan and Ewen particularly.

Saw it this afternoon and it is every bit as good as the first. More polished in terms of acting, camera work etc but looses no punch just not as bleak as the original. A couple of things didnt the ring true in the continuity line to twenty years ago and mabe one or two unnecessary references but a worthy and relevant sequel in that it carries on the original and embellishes the whole story. Quite a few jaw dropping scenes and gasps too which is always a good thing.

Did you cab it?

I'm glad I lost you - it's a sad trainspotting term for if you manage to get inside the locomotive.
