Late Doors

Town

Interesting series focusing on one particular  town at a time. Occasionally very interesting as Nicholas Crane explores and tries to get behind and under the town and it's people. Next Tuesday at 9 pm bbc2 its Huddersfield. Described as a Market Town in the Radio times, which is bollocks it also describes it as handsome and dynamic which i like.

Go on then, *expects*

In Huddersfield it is still legal to capture and imprison a man from Leeds indefinitely if found walking unaccompanied in town after dark.
Late Doors

I remember reading a pamphlet advertising the University to prospective students back in the early nineties where it described the local yoof culture and attractions. In the gay section it simply said Go to Leeds.
Nyles O Cranium

And in the Leeds one it said 'Fuck off back to Huddersfield'

Huddersfield is famous for the twisted spire of it's cathedral.

And the Golden Gate Bridge.

On a clear day you can see Lancashire.

Just switched over from the Cleckhudderfax episode. All the aerial camera shots were making me dizzy. There was nowt about dogshagging or rooftapping so not a very accurate picture IMHO. And as for that silly twee fucker of a presenter, well, I'm out. That is all.
Late Doors

Thought it was a very fair effort. Those weren't aerial camera shots just normal views from normal roads, we like it hilly round here.

Thought it overplayed the market element but got it bang on with the industry although rather neglected the thriving chemical industry we have. Ace representation of good racial cultural harmony and the classical music tradition, modern and old. Had to go out of town to Cleckheckmondsidge to get any town fans with teeth and tonsils to speak and they had to get the Leeds thing eh. Though to be fair the presenter started it.

Recognised a few faces and friends with two or three of the peeps who had speaking parts I know very well. Thankfully didn't mention the Summer wine thing even though it brings in the tourist they said bypassed the town but he got it spot on with our mentality about it. IE the less tourists the better because we know how ace the place is. Might have mentioned the emerging and thriving micro brewery scene, local sports and brilliant festivals we have but still, a really good prog that represented the town.

Maybe he doesn't share our manly personas and herculean physique Dock but when anyone is tackled by Eorl Crabtree they stay tackled

Eorl. Daft name and daft haircut. As for the presenter getting togged up for the carnival????? Idiot. No need mate. He talked about the massive unemployment rate as if it was some bit of quaint Yorkshire tradition. Arsehole. Him and Portillo can stick there flowery cutesy televisual snapshots of the North of England up their fucking arses. The public want what the public get indeed. I won't be a part of it me. I really won't.

*switches off*
Frazier Cranium

I watched 35 minutes of it but got bored, and I missed the Leeds comment by the looks of it too.  Up to then I enjoyed it, some great camera work and I actually thought the presenter was quite amusing.

The town is still teeming with Luddites innit?

Luddites, Rooftappers, and Dogshaggers. You forgot Rooftappers and Dogshaggers.
North Country Boy

Watched the Enniskillen episode. Not bad and I grant the presenter a reprieve for mentioning the flight of the Gaelic Earls to exile in Europe in the 1600's. An important part of Irish history that doesnt often get mentioned on these here kinds of programmes. Also liked the pig island bit. Ace!
