The Stonemason, A Play in Five Acts - Cormac McCarthy

This was never actually produced on the stage but it reads brilliantly and contains some great writing by CM. From what I can gather it isn't in print in the the UK and I found a copy on EBay.

It's the story of the Telfair Family from Louisville, Kentucky in the early 70's. Three generations of stonemasons headed up by the elder of the family Papaw. A man in his nineties who is a wise old man of god still working and who believes in what he calls 'The trade'. His belief in men making things that are built to last out of the very earth they walk on. CM's usual themes are in here, mainly the relationship between human beings and the world in which they inhabit, and how we should all stop moving too fast and enjoy what and who there is around us.

Its none of your beeswax Fuckface!

Sorry. That was rude. The basic plot was about a trip to the amazon where an expedition find a strange looking primate. The narrative continues to tell how the scientists shave the hairy beast down and teach him to speak. The beast then goes on to gain a job in Health & Safety and goes by the mystical jungle name ofÖ..Ken! Itíll slaughter King Kong at the box office when someone buys the film rights. It really will.
