The Specials and James at Splendour, NottinghamAfter the events of the last couple of weeks Mrs H and myself needed this concert.
James were, as usual, brilliant. Ok so some of their set is predictable and to appeal to the masses (Sit Down, Laid etc) but you know what, I don't give a damn. A session in a Nottingham Wetherspoons before hand (another one to tick off) added to the performance. I know they are not everyones cup of tea but to me they are simply ace. And Mrs H loved them as well which I was pleased about. You actually get the feeling that they want to please the crowd rather than themselves. If anyone on here hasn't seen them I can only recommend you do.
As for The Specials, well they were good but they were for me clinically good. It was almost like listening to one of those dreaded live albums bands produce when they are after a few more quid. No Jerry Dammers either although Terry Hall does have a superb voice. Still, I am glad I saw them.
Bus back to the Wetherspoons and a good night was had by all.
