The shivering mountain

The main road from Sheffield to Manchester used to run round the slopes of Mam Tor. The whole area is prone to landslips due to some seriously bad geology and the local council spent 50 years patching it up. Eventually, in 1979 they gave up.

This is what it looks like now.

Ace.

now the main road is the Woodhead pass. A cyclists nightmare fc and to be avoided at all costs, its horrible. Sometimes we go up Holme Moss and cross the main road towards Glossop past the resevoirs and back over snake pass and over the strines. Agreat but tough ride if you're not up for it. That main road though is treacherous. It's be safer doing this one you've shown on my road bike

Used to do Woodhead on a weekly basis, fecking nightmare for any mode of transit LD, so to travel it on a bike must be madness!

Used to drop down to it from Huddersfield on occasion, a truly beautiful run.

Had an interesting tent fire episode just off the main drag in Crowden once, prolly one of the most frightening event in my life.

Actually LD aren't we talking about a different road?

Mam Tor is further South than Woodhead.

Im talking abvout the A628 t'b Sheffield-Manchester Rd aka Woodhead Pass. This is the Rd i though fc was on about. It goes through a place called Torside. Nightmare Rd

Woodhead Rd that i think you are on about runs from Lockwood to Honley to Holmfirth to Holme Moss and meets the A628 after dropping down behind Holme Moss transmitters. Funnily enough ive just been riding along it this morning

Aye the A628 is the one I was talking about too, nightmare in Winter.

The one that drops down from Huddersfield is that one you mention I think, comes out down by Langsett Reservoir.

That third photo is a belter. I love that sort of scene.

Sorry about the Moat post in the middle of this, I leapt up to the pc seconds after it happened and posted on the wrong thread. Funnily the next day i looked for it on the thread i thought i had posted it on and when i didn't see it i thought i dreamed it.
