The Masters 2010

Looking forward to the return of Tiger Woods tonight. Couple of mates are coming round for a bit of HD magic, going to make some pizza and get the beers chilling

Will they still be doing the, "In the hole" cries, and if so will they be followed by sarcastic laughter? Ooo I hope so.

I reckon one of Westwood, Casey and Poulter could be in with a good chance here, we have 3 golfers in the world top 7 at the moment.

And yes it is a sport Sheeps
bearing

They'll bottle it Seal, all three will be on the pace as they go into Sunday then they'll collapse.

This has all the ingredients of being the best golf watch for ages.
Tank Girl

cant beleive augusta allowed there to be stuff lying on the ground.
they will have hoovered all that up for today.

Go Boom Boom

Once saw his wife (ex) standing on a table in a North Berwick bar pissed out of her mind singing the Star Spangled Banner, surrounded by jeering Scots and English folk. I think that may have been the straw that broke the camels back as they divorced the same year.

I almost got into a scrape with his caddy in the same bar too.

2/10

Apparently the bloke that designed the Augusta pitch is the same bloke who did the one in Alwoodley
bearing

2/10!

We did chant get yer tits out at her before some player led her away.

Dr MacKenzie was the course designer, also designed a course in Buxton which I've played

*no TG he's not Scottish*
Tank Girl

bearing, as you well know, everyone who has ever played golf, worked in golf, watched golf or actually driven a golf, is scottish on some level.
bearing

I'm not Scottish!

More hope than expectation really.

Westwood and Mickelson teeing off at 7.40. Peter Alliss looks to have put on 12 stone since the tournament began. Should know if Westwood has the bottle to see this out by around midnight

His caddie was an arse.

It's a toned-down blue tartan today.

KJ 'The Tank' Choi has been hitting shots so straight he must have a sighter in his visor. Mickelson is grinding it down now though, he'a a pretty brutal player. Westwood looks a bit flat and Tiger has just screamed out 'Jesus Christ Tiger' as he's shanked one off the tee.

I saw that, feels a bit odd that he refers to himself 'in the third person'.

Choi has been awesome btw
Butts

Mickelson's shot just now out of the trees to within 4 feet was astonishing. It's his to lose now.

Always thought that when O'Leary did it
Butts

He's just taken 3 putts from four feet. This is an amazing piece of sport/theatre.

Then he follows it up with an eagle, bet he's kicking himself now.
Butts

His swing seems really clunky. Peter Alliss has mentioned it.
Tank Girl

day 3 was some of the best golf ive ever seen.
of course fatty westwood didnt win, he says he has been 3rd twice and second once in majors and this means he must win one soon, i think it means he does not have the mental settings of a winner.
even when he was close i couldn't support him much, i just don't like him.
tiger also said 'did you see where it fucking landed?' at one point. he now says he is taking a break to re evaluate, whatever that means.
i like little choi, i love that he used to be a weightlifter.
mickleson never stops talking to his caddy. endlessly. its funny the different relationships they have with the caddies, choi hardly spoke to his at all, never walked next to him.
did you see the 16 year old italian kiddy?
Butts

Westwood is like a blank page. It was different when he was younger I seem to remember. That interview with Woods was odd. You could tell that the very experienced American TV man couldn't wait to get it over with.

Mickelson's shot from the trees on 13 as incredible and it was effectively over after that.

Manassero as a wild card at the Ryder Cup? That would do wonders for Sky's viewing figures.
lebowski

Michelson was fantastic under pressure, can't see whats not to like about Westwood TG, he just seems like a normal bloke.

I reckon he'll win a major.
Tank Girl

I don't like his aura, he holds himself like a traffic warden
bearing

Hmm interesting, my sister certainly doesn't stand like Westwood.
Tank Girl

i meant an officious-type traffic warden.

*backtracks*
bearing

Hmm, I'm sure TG was here earlier talking about traffic wardens. Must have been mistaken.

Justin Rose - what happened to him?

Tied fourth at the 1998 Open aged 17.

Still just 29 and settled for mediocrity. I wonder what it takes to break into the true elite, other than raw talent.

Rose lost in a playoff at the 2007 BMW PGA Championship, but moved into the top twenty of the World Rankings for the first time, and by October had reached a new career high of 12 and became the top ranked British golfer. Rose won the European Tour Order of Merit title for 2007 in a thrilling climax to the season at the Volvo Masters, which he won in a playoff on 4 November. His new world ranking of number 7 made him the top-ranked European golfer for the first time, and he subsequently moved up to sixth in the rankings. He has spent over 30 weeks in the top-10 since 2007.

Rose married long-time girlfriend Kate Phillips, a British former international gymnast, in December 2006. They have a house in Lake Nona, Florida, and a riverside flat in the London suburb of Putney. Kate gave birth to their first child, a son named Leo, on 21 February 2009.
Tank Girl

he played not too bad last season didn't he?
in the opens?
Butts

He's never got closer to a major than he did at 17. He's only made the Ryder Cup once. Mark O'Meara said in '98 that he was the best young golfer he'd ever seen. He went straight onto the US tour and just got swallowed up, banking hundreds of thousands of dollars by coming, like, 12th all the time. He's still so young as well.
Tank Girl

he may come good yet, peter alliss was on about the italian kiddy saying he hopes they take him slowly and dont ruin him, i spose it must go a bit like the very young tennis players.
Tank Girl

still even settling for mediocrity doesnt sound like that bad a life though does it.
Butts

Tank Girl wrote:

I'm sure he's very settled with Kate and Leo.

Look at Mickelson yesterday, though. He won by taking risks and being aggressive. He looked like a man possessed at times. Contrast that with the demeanour of Westwood and the shot selections he made and that seems to be the difference between the elite and the rest.
bearing

61st in the World
Tank Girl

yes i agree but i dont think it is something that can be learned, necessarily. there are some people who grasp how to win and some that just can't.

i think its similar with tennis, murray for example has got all the shots, some acknowledged to be the best in the game, best backhand, best return of serve, yet he cannt win majors.
may never happen now, it is all in the head at that level.

golf is slightly different in that lots of different people seem to get their one day in the sun but someone like tiger, or mickleson, or our own dear sir nick, they just really know how to win events.

wayne grady was talking about mickelson yesterday about some hole where it is wise to play it safe and not go straight for the pin and he says mickleson 'can only see the flag'

I've replayed that shot of his on the 13th a few times today just to marvel at the brutality of it.
