The Killer Inside Me - Jim ThompsonYou knowledgeable and experienced book readers out there will probably have heard of this American writer and devoured most of his work. For me though, this guy has been yet another one of those authors recommended to me, many years late. It's alright Dock saying you shouldn't have a 'To Read' pile but FFS I have no choice in the matter
Anyway, he wrote loads of 'thrillers' I suppose you can call them, including The Getaway and The Grifters, both adapted into pretty successful films.
This apparently has been adapted too, in 2010.
The Killer Inside Me is about a cop who... well I think the title tells you really. I suspect it's a premise or theme that has been copied plenty o times since.
I really enjoyed this book, and I was surprisingly quite shocked at some of the events within, brutal but not gratuitous, though that naturally is a personal perspective thing, I can well imagine this book being controversial due to its violent content, written as it was in the early 1950s.
Well recommended... I would be very interested to hear which writers since have been influenced by Jim Thompson. Bloody loads of 'em I bet.
