The fact that you are asking yourself these questions means that the art you refer to has done its job. For me personally art is something in any format or shape that either questions or celebrates our existence as citizens of the planet earth. Many people may look at some obscure painting or scuplture and ask "Why would anybody make that?" to which I would reply "Why shouldn't they?".

All art be it a novel, painting, or piece of music is totally subjective. You may think a certain painting is great and I might think its monumentally baba. And vice versa. Thats the great thing about art, it can be anything to anybody. And its one of the things that tends to get passed regulation by busybodies and smartarses in governments and other power structures. For want of a better analogy art is the kid who crayons over the lines in a colouring in book rather than doing nice, safe, and neat colouring.

been there a couple of times. Thought there was some interesting stuff in there - wouldn't necessarily want in the living room though.

The rest was a load of old Jackson Pollocks.

We had a chat about this in the Damien Hirst thread. We could have a right long chat about this over a few pots. Its hard to put into a few words what art is. For one thing its a two way thing between what it is and what it is perceived to be. That alone would take forever to chew over.

Went to the National Gallery as well during the Farts weekend of culture.

Full of pictures of horses, blokes with horses and blokes with armour on and horses. Dock might have enjoyed it but i preferred the modern stuff.
Sir Bulldog Craggwood

went to the Tate Modern in St Ives, Cornwall, last August - it was fucking brilliant but couldn't hold the proverbial candle to St Ives and its beaches and houses and shops - which were uniquely gorgeous. I had a flash of madness and told everyone for a week that I wanted to chuck it all in and learn to be a potter in St Ives

"Tate's out" would've been an ace name for the St Ives franchise.

I always thought Cornwall and Devon were a bit ace too, other than being a royal pain in the arse to get to.

They have a bloomen ace fest in St Ives in September called the errrrr September Fest or something like that anyway. Lots and lots of interesting stuff going on. Welcome to the mid life crisis club btw Bully

Too another look at the place on Saturday.
I was i a completely different frame of mind to when i last went and really enjoyed it this time around.
Perhaps its like listening to a new record or reading a new book. You cant get into it first time but give it another go and you see it in a different frame of light??
They were even selling Real Ales outside which i managed to drink on one whole floor before i was asked to get rid!
Proper classy me..
