Soaps...

does anyone watch them? I choose not to, but if you watch them, which one and why?
sheeps

Do my head in.

WFT and D1 record Corra and D1 will watch t' Emmerdale.

Corra is a total and utter pile of shite with the worst cast of actors on TV bar none with incredibly predictable plots and t' Emma is so fucking dull.

So all in all, not a fan.
Frazier Cranium

I am a saddo, I watch Emmerdale and Corrie, and Mad Men and I watched Friday Night Lights and I'm half way through The Sopranos
Forest

I sometimes catch a bit of Hollyoaks if my daughter puts it on, it makes Emmerdale look like Brideshead Revisited.
fartcatcher

Haven't watched any of the for years. Listen to The Archers every now and then but that's gone down the shitter.

Hardly a mention of silage, animal husbandry or tragic accidents involving agricultural machinery.
Dock

Don't watch any of em'. Mrs. D watches T'Emmeardale which is on four nights a week I think. Might even be five. I just go off and read when it's on. Wen you see soap actors interviewed they seem to be exactly the same in real life. They just seem to play themselves. Load of rubbish and flummery if you ask me. As for Corrie that's so bad it's not even a setreotype of Northerners anymore. It's become a stereotype of itself. Utter baba!

Point of order Codge. I'd hardly call Mad Men or The Sopranos soaps. A quarter of a million dollars spent on creating each episode of the latter series I mentioned. Tony Soprano deftly negotiating his way through the quagmire of construction contracts and bribable officials, his place as an American male in the 21st century, and violent murder as an occupational hazard has a bit more to it than Norris un-hilariously misplacing a consignment of Fruit Pastiles and Rita Fairclough commenting that the youngsters of today should get decent THaircuts.
Grind

Rita has a point though.

It's easy for you to mock my lad. Whilst you've been in T'States driving your Chevy to the levee, Going to hops with cheerleaders, and drinking chocolate malts and all that other American monkey business the two most popular channels in the UK have slowly but surely become made up of 99% shite and 1% of good programmes. Soaps, cooking, pathetic media, reality shows, and half-arsed dramas. If any of the aforementioned are what you are into BBC1 and ITV are the channels for you. If not you're fucked!

Has Dock had a bad day?

No mate. I had a great day yesterday. My opinion of Mainstream tv in Britain is a constant. In fact come to think of it, it seems to be an opinion that most people I speak to have about telly these days. For me personally I find most television shows and news coverage on the Beeb and ITV condescending and banal. The majority of it neither stimulates me or entertains me.
Nyles O Cranium

I knew my comments would get a reaction eventually.  I was jesting, though the deluded of television world do class 'soaps' as 'continuing dramas'.

I wouldn't criticise anyone for avoiding the soaps but there again, theviewers who don't take soaps seriously have got the right attitude.  Plus there is nearly always some good totty n Emmerdale or Corrie.  Eastenders is STILL depressive, I stopped watching it when Arthur Fowler had his mad episode on Christmas Day, rocking back and forth on a chair in the corner of the Fowler household.  So bad it was hilarious, and if you're laughing at something like that on that programme then it's time to get out! .

Quite a lot of folk agree with Codge, Stephen King for example.

Oddly enough, me and Heyho were talking about Stephen King last night and it appears that King hates the film of The Shining.  Plus he's written a sequel (King has, not Heyho).  Under The Dome is his too innit?  The Simpsons' dome in the film is better!

How about West Stand Firestarter?.

I picked up Under the Dome in Waterstones today (didn't buy it like, just picked it up). Its in their Buy One Get One Half Price range. Looks good. I think there was a review of it on here a while ago.

How many people will want two copies of the same book?
Frazier Cranium

Very good point there, no wonder the high street retailers are struggling with marketing ploys like that!
Grind

10% off is stupid too.

How will you find out whodunnit?
