Skrill North League

Couple of us are off to watch a bit of non-league football tomorrow night, Telford United v Worcester City at the New Bucks Head. One of my work colleagues plays for Worcester (Tom Thorley) so we're off to support/barrack him hopefully it'll be a god night with plenty of action.

Looking forward to it, should be a good laugh.

With luck, Leeds may get promoted to play them sometime soon.

I've been thinking of going to see AP Leamington, who have risen to the dizzy heights of the Knorr Pot Noodle Conference and play against a few ex football league teams fallen on hard times. Think it might be the same one as Telford and Worcester actually.

Only a few quid to get in.

Just add boiling water, stir in a couple of knackered ex-pros and juniors who didn't make it, wait five minutes and, hey presto, a delicious and nutritious football meal is served for all.

It is the same league, they're second from bottom.

I see some lovely football on a Saturday afternoon in our local area.

It was a good match, 0-0 draw but still entertaining. Worcester's goalkeeper at one point in the second half gestured to the ref and came out of his box to say something to him. We thought he'd had some racial abuse or something and was reporting it to the ref but according to Tom he was time wasting and just said to the ref he'd come over for a chat.

Down at Aggborough today to watch the 4th Preliminary round of the FA cup, a tie against Lincoln City.

A pretty balanced first half with plenty of chances falling to both sides and Worcester really taking the tie by the scruff of the neck, they were showing some fast, furious and passionate football with Lincoln showing a more refined style perhaps showing their one league advantage over the hosts. Sadly as it seems to be in the lower league there seems to be a lack of goal machines so by half time the score was still 0-0.

The second half started as the first half had finished with action in both halves, some great, entertaining, end to end stuff. Our mate Tom Thorley had been put into a left midfield spot for the first half but after about 8 minutes of the second half Worcester had to make a forced substitution bringing Williams on for Taundry, this brought Tom into the middle. The playing style of Worcester changed almost immediately with a much more attractive manner, incorporating plenty of effective passing which although not quite as good as that of Lincoln was no less productive, this improved style came to fruition with a superbly executed goal on 55 minutes. Lincoln had been awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position, a decently executed kick, well cleared by Worcester was collected by Nti who took the chance to run with the ball and head towards the Lincoln goal only to find himself fouled by the Imps right back. The ref who'd had a mixed match up to then allowed the advantage enabling Thompson to whip the ball in from the left for the fresh legged Williams to slot home at the far post sending the home fans into delirium with thoughts of a tie against one of the league one glamour boys in the first round proper.

The hosts advantage was pegged back 20 minutes later when a great save by Viega led to a Lincoln corner. The corner, played deep was headed back into the box for Boyce to tap home, we thought that the away sides league advantage would show and for Worcester to be in a backs against the wall position but it seemed that the visitors were settling for the draw perhaps fearing their hosts may hit on a counter if they went for the win. This however didn't allow the game to fizzle into the usual last 15 minutes of cautiousness that you would be led to believe with some great end to end stuff and at times Worcester laying siege to the Imp's goal belying their part time stature with no signs of fatigue setting in.

Hopefully the Dragons can get a win on Tuesday night at Sincil Bank but they do at least have their names in the hat for tomorrow's first round draw.

Don't let that put you off FC, go watch your local team.

Nice one t'B.

Plymouth at home in the first round proper if they can win the replay.

I'd definitely go FC, good honest stuff.

I'm really enjoying it, nice to be on a terrace again. The lad I go with had never been on a terrace in his life, at least this way he gets a taster of what it's like. I was explaining to him what the surge was like when a goal was scored and that joyous smell of piss that always accompanied a packed stand.

Yes. Not that our stands get packed. But remember the days.

It's nice to just lean on the barriers now, somewhere to rest the coffee/Bovril.

Tunbridge Wells was my last Southern non league (did Tonbridge Angels some time ago). Difficult to get to see any when packing a LUFC season ticket but in the days when I limited myself due to the twat Bates the non league scene kept me going. You get good ones and bad ones ground and football wise, just don't take little ones, the swearing gets worse (from the players) and loader the lower down the system you venture.

The fans are seriously foul mouthed and aggresive with it. On Saturday we'd wandered over to the 'tunnel' are to clap the players off and some bloke over my shoulder was spitting fire at the Lincoln players.

'You're fucking useless Lincoln, fuck off back to Lincoln'

'Fuck off Lincoln you inbred twats'

Just two of his choice reviews of the Lincoln team.

Tom moved clubs the other week, he's now plying his trade for Hednesford in the same league albeit top of the table.
