Scandal FC - publishing is asuffering

Howdy, I've just been advised by the publisher that Scandal FC is delayed release - it WAS intended to be later this month but I've just been told by the publisher that times are so hard that it's being put back until nearer Christmas.

Telling you all just in case it's of any interest to you

Bluntly speaking, I've hardly thought or worried about it for months, for reasons you all know and have cared about, and I'm considering jacking in book writing anyway, the business has been so unimpressive and, if I let it, hurtful too.

I have decided that some people really do take the adage 'writers suffer for their art' as a directive rather than a trivial saying

Kin' timing on that statement. Mrs. D has just joined a northern-based publishing collective copy editing committee thingmebob and she was asking me last night  if I knew any writers or people who may like to speak at their next get together. I mentioned you had had a few books published n' that. I shall be in radio contact with further details to see if you can be coaxed out of your recent retirement.

Weirdly, the publisher was looking for some cheap editing help (by cheap I mean free ) so I wish I'd have known.  I'd be honoured to help anyway, Docktor   , it's very obvious my head and my attitudes are in a 'strange' place at the moment.

Forgot to mention too, that the book will come out on time on KINDLE, as it costs nowt to release that way.  I've no problem with that, I trust the publisher and he is having a hard time of it himself.

Really hope you don't jack it in FC. My mate Cliff, the Spurs fan, read Dirty Leeds after the article on the Spurs Blog and said it was the best sporting novel he'd read. And he hates Leeds.

I'm not sure how many others he's read mind.   or in fact how many books. You can take it as a positive that he finished it

I can understand your frustration, but what would you do with all the words? - it's your duty to share them!
Grind

You can't leave it all to Mick.

that's brilliant.

I was in the pub a few weeks ago and this young 20-ish lad, the son of a mate, marched up to me to tell me that Dirty Leeds was brilliant and easily the best book he's ever read.  And he was being genuine  Slightly tempered the emotion when he told me, again in seriousness, that he had only ever read one book and this was it

Maybe you should send a copy to Victoria Beckham. She openly admits to never having read a book.

Giving up with a view to selling? See, i thought an artist, be it painter, musician or writer just does what they do, then maybe promote it. Not a thing you can switch off.

It's the book writing, specifically - I don't sell them Lol, that's the publisher's job and I packed in publishing 5 or so years ago. Presently I'm doing a bit of 'revisiting' stuff, like drawing & painting (as you know    ) as well as, with a mate, NEARLY getting a foot in the door for some telly drama writing which has had some great feedback from a couple of BBC people.  It all takes time though so I'm just getting on with other projects and, full of contradictions as I am, I'm researching a couple of book ideas.

I genuinely doubt you would believe me if I told you when I was last paid for my efforts, and the crux of the matter is, I do need money to live on, obviously.  I am owed a little wedge for my efforts but events and circumstances this year have overtaken my money worries, and the truth is that i haven't exactly been stressing out about being owed money as I have no urge to take those who owe me to court or anything.  It's always tempting to react that way though, I've always hated owing money and being owed money, but taking someone to court is extreme and completely fucks up civilised relationships anyway.

Anyway, rambling there was I, but the 'big' idea I have and which I'm lining up talks with a city institution about, is an idea I think Reggies would be rather impressed with because it's something I think some of you would be interested in doing yourselves.  When progress is made I will let you know but it, I hope, will involve meeting new people overseas, socialising and observing.  Oh and complaining too.  I'm not sure if I understand any of that but please try to trust me, when something happens - I can't even tell you the title as it will give it away and I think this is a potentially great idea - I will be confiding in Regividuals
