I'll compile a list of questions... Is Oakland the dodgy bit ?
Late Doors

Bring em on but bear in mind it was 21 Years ago

Supposed to be dodgy in Oakland but there are dodgy bits all over but youíd have no reason to go to them any way. In any case I always think so called dodgy bits in American cities arenít half as bad as they make them out to be

We only went across to Oakland once to watch the Aís and we drove there. Iíll do some remembering and asking about for you. My mate went on his own  a couple of years ago. Iíll ask him. It is an ace place though and somewhere Iíll be going back to some time

First thing i always think about San Fran is China Town. Great interesting place and Awesome food. Four of us had a banquet for 6 people on this massive revolving round table one tea time. They were laughing at us but we finished the whole lot. Oh and you cant drink on the street as we found out rather abrubtly and you cant argue with a bobby holding a gun while he is reminding you.

China town, McCafee park, (Now AT & T Park) Fishermans wharf, the golden gate bridge, those windy streets with the flowers, I've always wanted to go and see these places. I would love to combine it with a trip to Vancouver and Seattle.

All Fab. A Ferry Trip to Sausalito (sp?) was another highlight. Its quite a salubrious suburb but a well cool place. Theres also Alcatraz as well which although a bit of an obvious tourist trap is very interesting. We spent most of the nights in the Northern Quarter live music bars. That famous flower strewn road is the one with all the hair pin bends. Our plan was to drive up to Seattle but we only got as far as Portland. One Mr Chuck Berry was playing in the one of the Towns central parks the day after so we stopped there. It was so ace in Portland we stopped there two nights and never made it to Seattle

Had six days there a couple of years ago, great place, but not worth all the flying just for San Francisco, best to combine it with a couple of other places as mentioned above. Fishermans Wharf is very touristy, but fun for a morning. The layout of the city is totally unique, take a tram up California Street (its the one you see in all the pictures of SF, I'd wager it's as steep as Newsome Road in Huddersfield. Maybe not eh LD † ).
The people of SF are very proud of their micro breweries (The steam beer is a cross between bitter and lager, and plenty of Sierra Nevada on tap).

Alcatraz was impressive, also for the view of the city from the island as well as the prison itself. With regard to the Golden Gate Bridge, seeing is believing, it's feckin huge!!! And the amazing thing is, all the steel came from New Jersey at the other end of the continent. The greatest feat of engineering I've ever seen.

In the final analysis Leb, I think its something like the fifteenth largest city in the U.S., so I think you don't need more than 4 days there.

Coat, Door, Puts flowers in hair!

Leb, if you do go, don't buy a 'Rough Guide' book cos' I ve got one thats pretty recent, and has all the maps/info you need. Just give me the nod and I'll post it to you. On the money saved you can buy a couple of glasses of pop for yer sen. Job done!

If you do go Leb, just one piece of advice from me and that is to Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair.

I'm hoping to go when all the leaves are brown, and the skies are gray.

Dock, very kind mate, I missed this post before, sorry.

I won't be going this year, it'll be back end of next at the earliest I would think, but its high on my list, as is California in general, like the look of the countryside in the film 'Sideways'..... As and when I do book I will take you up on your kind offer, though most likely I will be buying you a pint with the saved money when you lend me it.

You know, I wouldn't mind all this height stick, but I get it from Mrs. Dock as well. She's about an inch taller at 5' 10", and she laughingly calls me "Her little man".
Pond Life

Right well i really promise to stop now.

I'm not getting a very truthful vibe here.

Seconded, it started when that silly fecker from Stafford said I look like Smiffy from the Bash Street Kids, and it snowballed from there. Of course the Wimbledon contingent didn't need much coaxing.
