Roundhay Park, Leeds.

I finally persuaded yer man to leave the house as the weather was so nice. So, I packed a picnic basket of me, some Magners and a new book for him and off we went. We parked by the lake and found a nice sunny spot near the edge. We saw loads of Swans, they were soon frightened off by some strange people who seemed to be playing outdoor water polo in Kayaks. We settled in and I amused myself by scaring overly nosy dogs while he read his book. In between his glancing at the hordes of fit Lycra clad women getting in to rowing boats right by us. I think he has been to this spot before.
Just as I was about to dive in the water to get my tea and upset the fisherman to our right who had caught nothing all evening the Swans returned so I thought better of it. He saw I was a little upset in the car so he bought us fish and chips in Oakwood on the way home. Pictures to follow, I'm the good looking one.

Looks great, Per.

I'm pleased to see that things seem to have calmed down.

It threatened to turn ugly with an ill-disciplined Bichon Frise at one point, but I soon sorted him out.

This is the look I gave the obstreperous pooch.

Swans fleeing nutters in Kayaks.

The Swans return. Yeay!

A lovely evening. I got my fish supper and he seems to have enjoyed his foray from the couch. I'm pushing him to go somewhere else tomorrow and to take me to Geneva with him.

When I'm next back I'll give them a big rooaar! I can be very fierce when I choose.

I believe Leeds has more parkland per square head* than any other city in Britain. Or even maybe the world. You're lucky bastards.

Can i just say you can't have your kayak and eat it.

*I don't actually mean you have square heads btw
Butts

I was running round that lake today, didn't see any bears though.

I think that's a bit of a marketing con and that Leeds actually has the most amount of "green space" per capita. However, this was deliberately achieved by Leeds council swallowing up far flung previously independent parish outposts such as Otley and Wetherby with the results that vast swathes of farmland were effectively encompassed within the city boundaries.

Come on my "parkland" and you're more likely to see the wrong end of Eddie's shotgun than a children's playground.

Rather like Birmingham's claims to having more canals than Venice. It's more a technicality than a tourist attraction.

We were there 6-8pm. Post-heat, pre-midges. He's all tired out now, bless him. He loved the Swans and his fish and chips. I'm thinking the Dales tomorrow, or maybe Saltaire. Suggestions for good pubs with scenery, lake or river? He likes the water
Forest

Heres something you may not have seen before.

Its on a postcard I have thats postdated 1911, I think the waterfall is now a hill.

Thats magnificent Forest. The area at the bottom was a lido in the '70's for a while. The waterfall must have been created by the lake running down over the hill. We used to sledge down that hill, its very steep.

One of my earliest childhood memories is of the lido, must have been about Forty years ago

I've got an old black and white photo of that waterfall.

Remember going to the lido once or twice but the water was fucking cold.

There's loads of good pictures of Leeds on here
