Rory

has had a record breaking first 2 rounds at the US Open.

almost had the lowest ever score in a major had he not gone in the water at the 18th.
about to go out on day three. after his horrors at augusta he has been training with jack nicklaus, who says this about him...

I like his moxie - I suppose that is the right word. I like the way he carries himself. We talked about the things I did when I was playing. He was worried about that he couldn't finish and couldn't win. I said not to worry about it. Instead of shooting 36 or 37 the last nine holes, one day you'll shoot 32 or 33 and win. Keep playing; keep your nose to the grindstone. You don't have to try to push something to happen. One day it will just happen, if you keep working at it and trying. Just believe in yourself, play within yourself, understand yourself, understand what you can do, and do what you can do.

great that - understand what you can do, and do what you can do.

A bit like life. It helps he's so young but if he can translate that advice into his golf then he's capable of anything.
Butts

Steady start, the course looks beautiful. I think even the Americans don't want to see him fuck it up this time. That image of Mickelson applauding him on the eigth yesterday made me want to cry.
Butts

He's finding the centre of the fairways perfectly, playing safe up to the pins, unspectacular but he's just played a stunner onto the 14th green, no one making a charge but I bet he'll be nervous tomorrow.
Butts

Birdie! 14 under now
Butts

A low punch from Garcia from out of the rough and behind a tree just hit the flag from 150 yards.
Tank Girl

the biggest ever lead going into the lsat day at a major was tiger woods at 10 shots.
i wish i could watch this, it must be something. on the bbc live report thing they are saying it is target golf.

funny you say it is unspectacular - is it so good that it is dull? no drama?
Butts

No it's not dull, he's playing the percentages. I don't have the commentary on so I may be missing some of the nuances but it's going to take an almighty implosion - his body language is just crying out WINNER!
Butts

They have a new gizmo on the TV coverage (sorry if this means you have to get Sky in due course) which tracks the trajectory of the ball as it leaves the club. Rory has just pierced the centre of the 16th fairway with a 300 yd drive but the ball started out WAY right and faded back in like a boomerang. Astonishing, never seen golf like it.
Butts

14 under going into the 18th, no repeat of yesterday please
Butts

Perfect
Butts

He'll play with Yang again tomorrow. Very impressive, talk about learning from your mistakes, he's turned that nightmare at the Masters into an immediate positive.
Tank Girl

i think this is why he got onto jack nicklaus after that maybe

As you probably know, that's the trajectory that comes when your swing is technically right, and producing the maximum club head speed. Every pro will try for the 'draw' shot  if possible.

Most club golfers don't have the right swing - obviously - and so produce a "weak" fade. As several golf coaches have pointed out to me....
Seal

Oh yes, and "Go Rors!"

I think this will also be the first time any country apart from the USA has won it twice in a row. Not bad for such a relatively small place.

You mean Britain don't you?
grunt

Did you see that guy with the tiny putter? Imagine a putter for a 2yr old. Looked very silly, it wouldn't be right to knock the winning putt in with one of those.

That'll be a draw, it helps the ball gain a few extra yards when it rolls out on the fairway.

I generally go with an extreme fade, also known as a slice...

In theory it's quite an easy shot to pull off, reality however as you've found is somewhat way off.
Tank Girl

are you watching it are you watching it are you watching it.

see what you mean about the body language butts. comes out -  birdies the first
he has obviously done something with the insides of his head - long way to go right enough, but if i had a farm i would be very tempted to bet it.
Butts

Just got in watching it now terrific stuff
bearing

Just learned he supports ManUre
lolwarlol

We have the NBC feed, the commentators are not really behind Rory. They are searching out any negative they can, including the prospect of the troubles he may have in his first year as champion that they suspect he will have.
Tank Girl

that was GREAT.

This feed, does it come in HD?
lolwarlol

I didn't get it in HD i dont think but i have to say the quality was as good as watching it on any television.
grunt

I'm over it now, there's too much fawning. Let's move on.
Butts

I like his Dad as well.

There's nothing not to like about Rory or his family and friends or every fantastic thing he's ever done or will do.

Oh yes, that's a good one, also that necklace thing he wears.
Tank Girl

Grind

It was mostly all about his neck.
bearing

You can get away with it if you've just won the US Open with a record score.
