Pat Eddery - RIP

Our racing correspondent seems to have gone quiet so ill put this up. 63 years old, sad, very sad. Fantastic jockey, amongst the greatest ever for me although I'm no expert. Would love to hear what Dock has to say.

He was a great jockey. You could always rely on him to try and win every race. Unlike a few others I could name.

Sadly ended up with serious alcohol problems.

One of the all-time greats. Eleven times British Champion Jockey, won the Arc four times, and the Derby three times amongst the four thousand plus other winners. Some say he was destined for greatness even from being a young apprentice with trainer Seamus McGrath in the sixties. Then Frenchie Nicholson brought him over from Ireland and the rest is history. He had his own unique riding style (as do all the great jocks) and he was always a safe pair of hands. I personally always associate him with two horses: Dancing Brave and Zafonic, but I'm sure others have their own favourite races/rides. Apart from all the tributes that came out after his death, this article was the one that really struck me (see link). RIP Pat! Forum Index -> Sink or Swim
