Oban Arygll & Bute

Looking at driving up and staying in a cottage for a week in late September. Any suggestions for where to stay, see? I'm a total Scotland novice.

Been to Bute, enjoyed it, lot of accomodation to choose from mate, hotels and b n b's.

Thanks Grunt.

We took a cottage a few miles north of Dunoon and travelled quite extensively around the area, but we didn't visit any of the islands. It was very pleasant without being outstanding. If I remember correctly, a lot of the area is Forestry Commission pine plantations.

I think it was on that holiday that we went on a guided visit to see deer close up.

The promotional flyer warned that it was rugged terrain and that we should wear stout footwear and sensible clothes. We turned up at the appointed place and were met by rugged looking Forestry Commission staff who were wearing the stoutest of footwear and the most sensible of clothing. The weather-beaten, no-nonense leader (probably called Hamish McTavish) said that we were to wait a few minutes for his son.

The son duly arrived fashionably late, wearing shorts, flip-flops and lime-green nail varnish, greeting us all with a cheery Keith Lemon-style, "Hiya!"

Not been to that area, been further up towards Skye. Great time of year to be, fantastic morning and evening light. Should be good for the piccies you'll be posting up

*already gets impatient waiting*

I guess those pesky midges won't be such a problem come late September.

Cottage booked for last week in Sept. A village called Innellan near Dunoon. I can't wait me.

Has anyone else harboured thoughts that Dock Dog may in reality be the equivalent of Brian from Family Guy in the Dock household (excluding Mrs Dock and the bairn)?

Good point well made Your Grace. He does help me with crosswords and also wins any disagreement I may have with him.

Back. Loved it. What a great place. Great scenic drives as well. Great driving roads along the lochs and over the mountains. Already planning to go back but will go further North next time. That is all.

The driving roads through the lochs and mountains are obviously more of a challenge.

Funny sod. What I meant was roads you can go along on without stopping at a traffic light every bastard five yards. As in the Lake District, the other drivers are much better at driving than in a city like Leeds where the majority are unsafe wankers too busy reading texts, tweeting, and facebooking when they should be watching the fucking road. We were going along a seven mile single road/track on our way to Lochgoilhead and it was good to pull into passing places to let other cars going in the opposite direction pass or vice versa with a lifting of one finger off the steering wheel in acknowledgement of the courtesy. Not a cheeky middle finger salute, but a "nice one mate cheers" gesture. A week of that and then back to scummy fucking string of beads where every driver seems to have gone through a lobotomy.*

* This medical procedure would explain why many of the locals still pay to watch and prop up such a corruptly run and stupid organisation as Leeds United.
