New shirt

I've just got another four (including a sweet one from 92/3), but this is about as trainspottery as you can get for a relatively recent Leeds shirt:-

So, you're thinking, what's the big deal, Grind?

A clue: the shirt was worn by Brian Deane in a preseason game with Benfica.

Still got glazed eyes?

Well, it's a 94/95 shirt with 95/96 PL patches (for the new season) and it also has the black Asics logo on the numbers.

Totes unique for the style - and only impressive if you're a shirt wonk, obviously.
Frazier Cranium

Nice to see it, ta.
Forest

Leeds should never have worn Green, it's just wrong.
Grind

The first team wore (at least) four distinct versions of the green/blue shirt.

In addition to the one above, we wore a weird "trial" version in a game at the end of the 1993/4 season, the "regular" 1994/5 league shirt and a modified UEFA cup version.

I have all four.

Anyway, I quite like it (the yellow/blue version is definitely one of my faves), but it is certainly "of its time" as a few other "Asics" teams wore very similar styles.

I know Stoke City had one that was practically the same.

Wonk, wonkety, wonk.
Grind

This is one of a batch I'm after.

Quite rare and never available as a replica - unfortunately it's not a first team example (no #16 back then), but still a neat shirt to add to my somewhat pointless collection.

Grind

Better than the new away kit, anyway.....
Grind

Here's another more modern unreleased shirt in the same batch.

Forest

Looks like a goalies shirt. And somebody has scribbled on it

Not much gets past you, eh?

* Unlike our goalies
Grind

I'm attempting to look into the specific history of a couple of my Hunter shirts (one from 72/73 and one from 73/74) and have been alerted to the fact that the club wasn't averse to sending out teams wearing shirts from different seasons.

Here's a humdinger from a game against Birmingham City:-

Grind

I guess we couldn't afford decent shorts either.
Frazier Cranium

Excellent spot that blimey, good luck with it all Shirtlock
Grind

I can't claim any credit for finding it - my main man Dave spotted it - here is a later pic which shows three different shirts simultaneously being worn in the same game.

Tight Yorkshire fecks!
Grind

Not the easiest to spot - smiley, "inverse" smiley and nothing at all.

I became interested in this again after watching the Palace game on Monday - for those who didn't see it, Scott Dann got a bloodied nose and had to change his shirt and I was a bit surprised there was no match ready spare available for him. To my eye, it looked like he simply put on a blank (possibly even fished out from the club shop?).

I think our boys get a couple of shirts per game and, at least in the immediately prior seasons, it wasn't uncommon for these to "disappear" and not be used again (sold to mugs like me).

Even quite recently, match shirts never left the kitman's sight until the last game of the season.
Grind

Frazier Cranium

I find it fuckiti-nteresting
Heyho

I got in touch with a man who should know the answer - my old man.

He didn't.

LOL

I can only think that as they didn't have that many spare shirts back then that maybe even a spare wasn't available so they had to dig out another with a number 7 or 9 on the back of it
Frazier Cranium

As long as they got the basic colours right I think they were satisfied.  Remember when we beat scum away in the 70s, with Brian Flynn scoring the goal, and the team had Man U black shorts on.
Grind

Oh dear........

Frazier Cranium

What a shower of fcking shit, that sort of crap really pisses me off.

Still, me being a spelling pedant, allegedly, that advertisement sort of makes me feel my role in society is more justified now.  But the price they're asking, that's a disgrace, I hope no one even considers buying one.  I feel almost compelled to write to the dealer or even report the bastards.
Frazier Cranium

I couldn't stop myself!

Dear ,

Thanks for you email at this busy time.

Do you realise that not only are you asking a disgracefully outrageous price for a shirt which has been given away by Leeds United all season to season ticket holders, the spelling of the great Lucas RadEbe's surname is wrong on your shirts?

Grind

Heh, heh.
Grind

Not a new one, but thinking about watching Shutty always makes me smile, if only for the goal against Stuttgart in Barcelona.

Frazier Cranium

Is that your photo?  I see the Billy figurine behind the shirt!
Grind

Guilty as charged.

* At least he didn't see the Action Man
Grind

Ha! This image must be ancient - I've had a Mac for at least three years.

Grind

The screen shot says 2009!
Frazier Cranium

Blimey.  Brilliant stuff, I love the old LU memorabilia

Me too - do you like the Brolin doll?
Grind

Crikey!

If you want one of your own....

Frazier Cranium

No, she was never my type.

Iii thank you.
Grind

Just in the process of getting this bad puppy....

Grind

Should be another couple arriving soon.

I bet you can't wait, eh?
Grind

One of them's red....
Frazier Cranium

I'd reject it!  Would be v impressed if you got one of the orange ones from that one match I think it was.
Grind

Frazier Cranium wrote:

Nope - it's more recent than the one you're thinking about (although I would like one of those too).

I'd forgotten we'd even worn it.

I'll post a piccy once I know I definitely have it - don't want to tempt fate and all that.
Grind

Here's a hint......

Frazier Cranium

Blimey, match worn or is it impossible to know?
Grind

Frazier Cranium wrote:

Definitely match worn - they didn't make many back then either.

Even those outfield shirts are hard to come by (although I do have a couple).

The other shirt coming is also a GK shirt, but later on in the eighties and of a more acceptable colour (pale blue).

* Is totally overexcited and that. *
Grind

I'm spending my kids' inheritance.

* Luckily, I don't have any kids.....
Grind

Just bagged one of the yellow shirts, but not from a game covered in glory. Not convinced the player is that good either, but hey ho and all that

I'm sure it's probably been discussed at length elsewhere, but is there a sensible and/or logical reason as to why we don't have any sponsorship on the front of our kit?
Frazier Cranium

Because Enterprise Insurance are still around, there is some sort of dispute.  In other words, despite attempts by some to claim it's all part of a great Cellino plan to keep the white shirts untarnished by sponmsors, it's actually a money issue - ie Enterprise would sue, or summat.

I figured as much, especially as there is still sponsorship to the back of the shirt.

Could be an expensive season for shirt collecting if (or when?) we do sort everything out.
Frazier Cranium

Another Cellino booboo by the looks of it, but from before Pearson arrived and with luck it will be resolved at least by next season, I dunno.
Grind

Sadly these aren't at Grind Towers, but a mate of mine now owns these three beauties:-

Frazier Cranium

You seen the 1973 final trackie top on sale on ebay - with Cyril Partridge's name on the back?

Lovely item.

Must admit that's one I'm watching.

Quite an iconic item, but hopefully I won't be tempted.
Frazier Cranium

Mick Bates' was available from the same seller, I believe.

I think you're right. Mr Bridesmaid himself.

I've tended to steer clear of stuff other than matchworn shirts, although I do have one of the tracksuit tops from Radebe's testimonial, which is really quite swish.

Oh, for a Radebe now.
Frazier Cranium

Grind

Lordy, they're coming thick and fast now!

I'd be bankrupt if I collected trackies.

It seems to be in reasonable shape too - cotton shirts from back then haven't always aged very well due to combinations of strange cleaning products (if they were even cleaned - the real purists prefer unwashed and dirty!) and environmental/storage.

I have a late eighties shirt that looks good except the collar - which is manky beyond belief. Too bad.
Grind

Should be getting an "interesting" white shirt soon.......

....not Leeds, but Leeds-related.
Frazier Cranium

Scotland?  Wngland?
Frazier Cranium

England even
Grind

It's a club shirt, but not one based in England, Wngland or Scotchrovia.
Grind

Here's a teaser.....

I'll be pretty impressed if anyone works it out.

Maybe we could play the yes/no game?
Frazier Cranium

Oh FFS, American or Dutch.
Grind

Neither, but you might be closer than you think.
sheeps

Is this in the correct section?
Frazier Cranium

No so get out.
sheeps

It will be the shirt of one of ours previous foreign club.

Obviously.
Grind

He wasn't associated with the number 11 when he played for us, but I suppose it's entirely possible that he might have occasionally worn it.
Grind

I suppose you might even be technically correct.

Not much gets past Sheeps.
Grind

This isn't as entertaining as I had hoped.

Oh well.

Move along. Nothing to see here.
sheeps

Im enjoying it.
Grind

That's good enough for me.....

By all accounts he's been a bit of a pantomime villain at ER in recent times, but he wasn't all bad when he played.
Frazier Cranium

Interesting find!  A lot of fans used to slag US sawker off for having player names on the back
Grind

Lots of Leeds connections in that team - Yorath, Harvey and Giles to name a few.
Grind

Still waiting on Lasher's to make it here, but this heavyweight puppy arrived yesterday along with some modern lightweight Silvestri shite.

Assuming I've not already mentioned it on here, there's something (sort of) special about this shirt if anyone wants to amuse themselves in another quiz-type thing (it went so well last time).

And, no, the answer isn't "Needs."

We are Needs, we are Needs, we are Needs.
Grind

This won't help you much, but I got a bollocking from the club after the game in question.
Grind

Despite the plausible match reports, I'm beginning to wonder if any of you have ever been to a Leeds game.
Grind

Should be getting Silvestri's orange "blood" shirt soon.

It's player stock (this version not sold to public), but it doesn't have the secondary sponsor and served as the back-up spare in games just in case his original shirt needed replacing. Hence the "blood" designation.

Not hugely important in the scheme of things, but if you collect nonsense.... or want something "new" to put on your office mannequin.

* Since he had a blinder yesterday, I figured I might not be laughed at quite so much. *

** Except by Dock, natch. **
Grind

A complicated deal is in the offing involving four of my shirts to get one back.

Bet you can't wait.
Grind

Another #11 on the way (please don't tell the wife!), as much down to the favourable exchange rate (for me, anyway) than anything else:

Signed by Revie and Bremner too - I'm not usually fond of signed shirts, but have made an exception for this one.

* So much for the New Year's resolution that I don't "need" any more shirts
Grind

Less iconic, but I'm also getting this puppy:-

Do any of you know why it is a one-off (assuming I haven't posed this question before, which I probably have, because I'm a bit of a div)?
Frazier Cranium

Squad numbers?

That Eddie one is spoiled by the signatures but if it's signed by The Don and BB then it's a real rarity I reckon.

Can I ask why are you sure of its authenticity, shirt signing wasn't common was it?
Grind

The Hopkin question is fairly specific to the player, although the opposition (Blackburn) is relevant.

I'm always a bit wary of signatures and even "genuine" COAs often mean bobbins - I only fully trust those I've seen actually signed in person.

I'm getting the Owl shirt more because it is, well, the owl shirt (I have Sprake's from the same kit style).

I personally don't think signing shirts makes them more valuable.

In fact, it often detracts for me - it is not unusual to see a genuine m/w shirt be taken to, say, a players' dinner where it is signed by people who had no association with either the club or the shirt when the shirt was used.

Seems stupid to me.
Grind

Collecting m/w shirts is also stupid and somewhat pointless.

If I had any children, I'd be spending their inheritance.
Frazier Cranium

I'm just wary on your behalf of signed shirts, I totally agree with your comments.

I think you've mentioned the Hopkin thing before.

Inheritance spending or not, it's not like you're peeing it all away or gambling is it, so that collection not only will be worth a mint but it clearly means a mint to you, don't knock yourself so much
Grind

A bit of a case in point - I was recently shown an away number 8 from 1980/81 signed by Allan Clarke.

I got a little excited until I double-checked and realised that it was from Clarke's time as a manager rather than a player.

Not worthless, by any means, but one I ended up steering clear of, despite the two selling features (shirt, Clarke's signature) being independently okay.
Frazier Cranium

Just wrong and pointless in that case, innit?
Grind

Frazier Cranium wrote:

That's what I said!

* I know wrong and pointless, me.
Grind

Here's the image I was sent.

It did help somewhat that I already have the #5 (Hart?) from the same season.
Frazier Cranium

But a shirt from a season in which the player didn't actually play in, is the pointless bit I meant.  Favourite shirt design that BTW
Grind

After watching the match tonight - in which we looked pretty bloody good value for the win - I was reminded of this "stupidly signed" shirt that is (hopefully) heading here shortly (my pointless life aim is to try to get a full "set" of home/away/change/GK shirts from each season):-

Woody!

So?

Well, the daft twat wrote the wrong Norwich game on the shirt - it's from the cup and not the league fixture.

D'oh!

Still an identifiable m/w shirt though from the rip.

* Looks for Tippex. *
Late Doors

Quite like the natty Parka mesen
Grind

Just noticed that the club have stuck a few from the Derby game on eBay - some are already a bit too high (at least based on what I typically pay), but I suppose if you just wanted the one?

Here's a linky thing tp Wood's:-

http://www.ebay.com/itm/152400201...amp;ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Frazier Cranium

Can they not use apostrophes, the twonks?

Not sure I'm impressed by a professional football club putting match worn shirts up for sale, with only 10% going to their partners Greenpeace, doesn't sit well with me, seems 'shabby'.
Late Doors

Me neither, not too classy is it but better than chucking em i suppose
Grind

* Checks rubbish bins in LS11 *
Frazier Cranium

Funny you should say that....

I have a few player tracksuit tops through the ages in my wardrobe.  Don't tell Heyho though as his dad might object as he was 'management' at the club when my Dad was on the ground staff
