New Order latest album

It's very good, not their best of all time but definitely their best of recent time.

Would have preferred distinctive and heavier bass, a la Hook, but that's a minor gripe.

It's on my list. Especially with you recommendation, and Mr Butts was singing its praises at Regfest.

Bernard is into collaborations nowadays, which isn't a problem for me but the bass definitely has been turned down a bit.  And for all Hook's faults, one of them certainly isn't HIS bass sound.

Chemical Brothers influence in the album, plus Iggy plus La Roux's singer, and a bit more.  Basic point is though, Bernard Sumner and NO can still pen some great ditties.

I'm oblivious to the reasons for the fall out but Hooky's bass was a thing of beauty. Heard a couple of tunes but nothing off it that really drew me in. I'm in a scuzzy guitar period right now so take that with a pinch of salt.
Late Doors

Made some of my favorite music of all time but every time I read about their pathetic fratching it just makes me think that they are a bunch of pricks and that makes me wonder how they can make great music together.

That shouldnt bother me i know but it does. It's probably good (A you tube link of anything off it would be nice) but too far down my list of priorities to check by myself, just yet anyway

I've said it before LD, that it's bugged me for a long time too, but if you read their books and listen to any interviews, it's clear that Hooky is the one with the chip the size of a jetty on his shoulder, and that he has 'imagined' some of the rivalry and conflict.  I'm quite sure Bernard Sumner isn't perfect or saintly but in the band's history, it has seemed to be Hook fighting against the rest of them.

In the end, money seems to be a big part of their quarrels, and Tony Wilson was at least partly to blame for such strife.

Nonetheless, Hooky's own musical efforts away from the band - new material or rehashing JD stuff with The Light, is still good and at times great imho.

In other words, I don't let bands' childishness spoil my liking their music... New Order, The Stranglers, Stone Roses, OMD, Pink Floyd, Smiths, even Fleetwood chuffing Mac.

Yeah i know, now, about that You Tube link...

?

I first heard the album on YT, then bought it (the album, not YouTube).

I think you are way off the mark LD. Don't believe everything you read. There are only four people who REALLY know what has gone on, not some music journalist knobend. The dynamics of NO, or any other band for that matter, are between the band members and is, in the final analysis, nobody else's fucking business. And shouldn't be of concern to anybody not included in that dynamic. Why should it bother you? Or anybody else? People in general can be twats to each other, so the same goes for people in bands. I've got Bernard Sumner's autobiog on my to-read list but I'm not after noseying in on any kind of he-said-she-said knackers about other band members. Judge them on their music alone.
Heyho

Half way through the album. Summing up to date - a throw back to early 80's OMD with all that drum machine sound

Well yes i agree, 'cept totally not. Its irrational but ill try to explain it. I like to understand what makes an artist tick. I love reading about music and the people who make it and consequently have an admiration for the people who write it. I don't think the vast majority of music writers are knobheads, I am inclined to believe what they write or at the very least believe they believe what they write. i know what i think about personalities shouldn't affect how i perceive their art but it does. The two things are linked, the art and the personality, from one comes the other so why should i ignore it.

I'm not judging the music either merely judging how much attention i give them. Its just a way of prioritising i suppose. interesting,( for me anyhow) to examine it further. It doesn't apply to footballers i don't care a jot about their personalities or group dynamic. In that case i am only concerned about the product but when it comes to art the personality comes into it. For instance Gordon Ramsey can have as many Michelin stars as he wants i still would not eat in any of the objectionable twat's restaurants. Maybe that's the difference between product and art and yes i think fine cooking is more art than product . And yeah it does seem like Mr Hook is the highest twat of all and the chief culprit of all the twattery. He bores the fuck out of me like a lot of these pontificating musos  who think just because they have produced some great music it somehow gives them a reason to spout their petty nonsense and believe its important. I cant help being prejudiced by things like that. Its how i judge lots of things. If i don't like the landlord I will be less inclined to buy his beer.

I also smell a big rat when bands suddenly reappear as well. Gigs have never been as lucrative for 'name" bands, album sales are holding, vinyl is big and oh yeah Christmas is coming, now what shall we get dad? Its enough to make me doubt the quality of it so i appreciate the endorsements here. They put it on a level playing field for consideration.
Some bands genuinely pull it off like prefab sprout last year but some just tarnish their legacy like the pistols.

Probably not justified or even explained anything i guess. Its just priorities, i cant buy everything by everyone so its a personal quality control prioritising system i have. ill probably "steal" the album anyway. Maybe even like it. Cheers for the link Butts, at least someone's paying attention

Like you LD I love to know what makes the people I admire tick, but their slagging of other band members doesn't interest me.
Forest

Heard the single on Radio2, sounded like New Order doing an impression of New Order. Something not quite right.

Late Doors

Well i got it finally after the single Restless became a bit of an Ear worm. It wont export into ITunes though. Anyone else heard of that happening?

Chuff me as well, Hooky suing the rest of the band for 2.3 million. Dont know anything about it so cant comment but hell fire that's a lot of money he thinks he didnt get.
