Never Mind the Quantocks - Stuart Maconie

This is yet another highly readable book from Maconie. It's a collection of his columns from Country Walking magazine. SM is a keen rambler and his enthusiasm for the British countryside is evident on every page as is his usual wry wit when discussing all things walking related in essays with titles like 'A Bolshie Goat', 'Get Jiggy With It', 'Isotonic or Gin and Tonic', 'Walking the Wainwrights', and 'Viva Stalyvegas'. For those who enjoy Maconies books this is more of the wonderful same. For those of you who haven't read his stuff I advise you to pick up this or any of his other books.

Enjoyed all his books apart from the one when he kept going on about what a wonderful place Manchester was.

Will definitely get this one when i have saved up.

7.58 for the paperback and Kindle was 5.28. I went for the Kindle version. I'd just finished a long Dickens novel and wanted summat lighter. Pressed 'buy with one click' and within seconds it was on my machine. Sorted. Currently reading a paperback though. Can't quite give em' up just yet, and probably never will. But then saying that, once I thought Kindles were the devils invention so my stance could change. I'm dead fickle me.

I was really enjoying this until he mentioned a GPS.

I can understand where you are coming from with that Cuts, but as a precautionary piece of kit in case of Lakeland fog I think we can let him off.

I've been all over up there as a kid, down's always down, weather gets bad, stop going up. It's still a good book. Great for the train ride in on a morning. I was contemplating doing a review for ST. Certainly whetted my appetite for more walking literature. Thanks.
