Moving

Me and the mgmt formulating plans to move up N. Early days yet as either of offspring could throw a spanner in the ointment.

Just thought I'd better give you a bit of a warning.

Originally from Chapel Allerton/Gledhow area, but C/A is full of fucking hipsters now* and Gledhow too expensive.

Quite fancy somewhere that has a rail connection. Fed up of sitting in traffic.

*sorry Butts
Forest

Cross Gates, Garforth or Horsforth. All have stations, I think Kirkstall has a new station too.
Heyho

I'm in Woodlesford. Train station there. Nice area.

Up North fc or just Leeds? From what you say and what I've seen you are in a lovely part of the country where you are.
Grind

It's pronounced, "Conntroi."

Thanks for all the advice chaps.

My sister recommends Otley - so watch out PM.

Warwickshire's just a bit dull LD. A few trees around but it's as flat as Kate Moss's chest. Me and mrs fc like going for walks and stuff, and in the 25 years we've been here, I reckon we've done every footpath and bridleway.
I've got some good mates I'll miss and have to find myself another part time job, but it feels like the right time.

Mrs fc also fancies the Welsh Borders. Bit remote for me. And too close to Wales. I've also specified mains drainage and gas fired central heating as requirements which probably rules out most of Herefordshire and Shropshire.
Grind

Salopy seconds?
Late Doors

Otley hasn't got a train link though.

Beeston then, and you could walk to home games.

Guiseley/ Menston good value/ connections - bargains to be had in Horsforth also.

If one absolutely required a rail service, Menston station is about 5 minutes away from Otley town centre via a dedicated interconnecting bus link to meet the hourly train service into Leeds, and takes about 20 minutes.

The most direct bus service to Leeds is every 20 minutes during the day, hourly in the evenings, and takes about 40 minutes.

The train arrives at a fixed point which takes time to exit, and then you need to get to where you want to go. The bus crosses town, and may even drop you off next to your destination. Time-wise, there's probably not a great saving in average journey length.

The reliability of the train service is generally better, though if you just miss one and the next is cancelled, 2 hours is a long delay. The buses suffer from the fact that the X84 route from Leeds to Skipton is very long - probably 25 miles, and if there are problems with the route, they get compounded as the day goes on. The last service for both leaves Leeds at about the same time.

While a train service would be welcome, it's absence is not an overwhelming loss.

Mr Catcher - I look forward to welcoming you as a neighbour.

**Eddie - let the dogs loose**

Re: Menston - beyond having station, unfortunately it has virtually no facilities beyond a Co-op and a pub. I'd hazard a guess that it makes Birdingbury (and its social club) look like New Orleans during Mardi Gras.

Staffordshire has hills, I'm also pretty sure that Shropshire has gas and mains drainage.

Shropshire looking hot favourite at the moment. Mrs fc frightened of Yorkshire as they all talk funny.
Late Doors

Don't blame you, lovely county but not averse to talking funny either
Heyho

I want to move, wife doesn't so we are staying put. Simple really
sheeps

Moved about a month ago, to look for the remote.
fartcatcher

This is where we are now

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broseley

It's nearly 30 years since we moved last. It will be another 30 fucking years before we do it again. What a fucking hassle!

30 miles from Bearing!!!
Heyho

We are now in a very enviable position of being mortgage free. Given the threat of this social housing estate at the bottom of our garden (which overlooks green field site) I want to move.

Of course I don't want to start a mortgage again so I fancied a new house near us at the same price. Overlooks fields and a lake. Dog walkers paradise. Nope, the other half won't entertain it - after I met all her criteria for spec of house plus no further away from work etc etc she over ruled it on a technicality - the road 100m away is too busy. Ermmm its a single track road linking Allerton Bywater with Swillington. Hardly the M1

My dream is to do a house up. Quite fancied this one near us and have been keeping an eye on it for last year:

But had to laugh at the artists impression and the actual state of it as seen in the pics.

Maybe one day I will get my dream
Late Doors

Aye, there's only one decider in the house when it comes to moving aint there. We've spent a good 12 months up and down the Holme valley, Colne Valley and Big Valley with a view to moving befeore WE came to the conclusion we love it where we are and are staying put. I am delighted about that

How's it Going fc? found a new social club? Met the local vigilantes yet?

I note that there are 2 "Moving" threads. I have left it a couple of days for admin to sort this utter mess out by merging the threads but have they? Have they flip. I mean, what do they do all day?

Disgusted of Kent
