Matthew Hoggard

Sad to see his illustrious time at Yorkshire come to an acrimonious end.

Matthew has been a fantastic servant to the team and a great ambassador for the sport.

He says that he had been in negotiations with Yorkshire about a new contract, Yorkshire say thay have offered him a contract and he turned it down, its a shame.

When you also consider that Michael Vaughan packed things in mid-season and add to that the pitiful displays of a talented squad you have to question what the hell is going on behind the scenes at Headingley.

Good luck to him for the future.

Well someone's lying about contract offers etc, either the player or the club.

McGrath was similarly 'odd' before the start of last season too wasn't he?

Something's up, but the accounts from the county and Hoggard are so opposite then someone's telling massive lies. I'm not sure how much of a grip Martin Moxon's got on all this, not much it seems as there's no plausible explanation for Hoggard going other than a big falling out.

i maybe in a position to get a regda exclusive here if my correspondent has the FUCKING COURTESY to call me back about this

knowing Yorkshire CCC though the tight fuckers are thinking "eeey why do we spend all that good money ont' academy if we arent letting lads in team for all the England players who dont have the decency to play for free/die mid-contract"

Can you ask your correspondent for the low-down on the Rana Naved cock-up also, please?

Listening to Goughy on the radio the other night, a snippet of information was that any player who has been on a central contract which has come to an end, his county have to pay him the same money for the following 12 months.

This seems ridiculous really and penalises counties for having successful players, losing them to the England set up and then having to pay over the odds once they have been discarded. Stupid.

Not that this applies to Hoggy, but there you go.

Think that given they play almost all their home Games in Leeds they might as well call themselves Leeds CC. Might make one or two happy on here as well

Iíve got nothing to back this up but iíve got this impression that the power base at YCC HQ is full of antiquated old school County Money men who have not got one jot of contemporary appreciation of what normal people want from a sport.

you're right in that they dont play enough games round the county

I agree with most of what you say Mr Doors. However, from the perspective of an occasional punter with school-age, keen, spectating daughter, there are actually only a limited number of fixtures scheduled at Headingley.

I appreciate that week days are out and poor late spring/ early summer poor weather cannot be factored into the schedule. However, once one takes into account that the latter half of the season's games predominantly seem to be anywhere but Headingley, there are not a lot of reasonable-risk (minimum 4 hours play?) games suitable to attend.

In the last couple of years we've bought tickets for 20/20 games, which are relatively early in the season, that have been rained off and have struggled to find suitable alternative run-of-the-mill games (county championship etc.) to utilise the tickets for for the rest of the season. At a tangent, I do find the mandatory "administrative charges" when providing refunds for rained-off games rather unsavoury and disingenuous.
