Manager?

Not a rumour but a circumstance - O Neill and Warnock to "swap" jobs?

NW could be wanted by Sunderland to rescue their PL status, going nowhere at Leeds. O Neill was a wanted managerial candidate for Leeds a few years ago.

Swapping jobs now maybe good for both clubs.  Warnock to fill a short term gap at Sunderland to try to keep them in the Prem Lge before he retires - O Neill to make an early start at Leeds to assess the squad in preparation for next season.

Football is a funny old game so who knows?

Cant see it to be honest. Think Warnock wants out of football asap.
Word on the street today is (coughs) Mark Hughes..

I like what you did there, LD

The YEP reckons McDermott so i guess we can rule him out

I would be happy if O'Neill gets a chance with us, though despite all the praise and respect he seems to have earned, he's actually won very little  But I do like him, I know he's almost O'Rain Man but anyone who publicly calls Ken Bates a cretin has to have something good about him  Honestly, I would get him bloody signed up asap, cos we're not going to prise a proven manager away from any Prem club.

Third time lucky?

I suspect he will only come if he's sure Bates is out of the picture.
Frazier Cranium

Well he is but have the present mob got the foresight to hire him or is it more a matter of waiting for them to lift the club out of limbo and accepting the alleged majority share owner bid from Parkin?

I think we got lucky that DiCanio went to Sunderland.

Not so sure O'Neil is then man even if he wanted it. Do we want a bloke on the back end of his cycle, limited achievement? A bloke who knocked us back when it mattered for clear reasons of animosity towards our club. Has he got the vision and stomach for a five year plan? Can he attract players and push them to become bigger when most seem to think simply by being here is as good as it gets for them? I'm not so sure. I've no idea who there is but a fiercely ambitious single minded younger bloke who is already proving his talent in the lower leagues is the ideal for me. Someone who could create a shared purpose and galvanise everybody from top to bottom and all across the clubs structure including all the fans. The only thing O'niel has over that is his stature and kudos that could keep players motivated and respectful. Then he only has limited time before he runs dry like he has been doing recently.
smiling badger

Wouldnt want O'neil, old school and not far from Warnock territory really.
Poyet seems the only one that springs to mind and makes me think he could bring us forward.
Nyles O Cranium

No animosity from O'Neill towards Leeds LD, not as I recall it anyway, it was more his loyalty to his then employers.  Leicester fans were begging him to stay while Celtic's chairman renewed his contract after just about everyone assumed he was coming to Leeds when his contract ended in 2002 I think it was, when we were just getting over Venables' reign which got even worse as Ridsdale lost his nerve too and fecked off.
Nyles O Cranium

I do think though that Leicester will sack Nigel Pearson and get O'Neill in.

I agree, O'Neill has long time been overrated because he actually hasn't won much - gore on omj always used to say that when he was at Villa - but I just like the guy and think he's got plenty to offer still.  But I could be biased simply because he called Batesthetwat a cretin, on telly  I've nothing against Mark Hughes as a manager, or Owen Coyle or Paul Lambert.  Couldn't have done with Di Canio though, you need a manager to have stability too, he just reminds me of Dennis Wise, Dr Strangelove and Cantona all mixed up

Tell yer what, Lee Clarks record at Huddersfield speaks for itsen, and he looks to be turning round a club that was in the house next door to us on Shit Street.

Worth a look.
Nyles O Cranium

Nope, no foreign manager for me thanks.

I fear the worst.

No ambition and no money.

Cheapest option. Redfern to replace Colin.
Sir Bulldog Craggwood

Its got Richard Naylor written all over it hasnt it?

Why Not? Maybe a tad early for him but i think he has got what it takes.... eventualy. What about that lad at St Mirren? Danny fucknows ? Just kicking names around though. Won the league cup up there. Journey man player, under achieved, Might be the right kind of bloke.
smiling badger

This certainly is a time where our current owners will show how much ambition they have to push the club forward.
Perhaps i'm a tad, cynical but im afraid that it wont be too far.
Well past the stage of actually being too bothered either way.
fartcatcher

I'd have Larry back if he was up for it. With Naylor as defensive coach, bearing in mind Larry's lack of previous in that area.

I'm not sure about Bearing's credentials.

Been thinking about this. What's any manager going to be able to do. We have the Arse end of a truly horrible Bates Tenure in terms of football investment. We have new incumbents who appear  to be devoid of a pot to piss in nor seem likely to either attract additional investment or give up their majority holding. Any manager will have a limited pack to deal with.

Unless something fundamental changes from the top down that involves buying and paying quality players and coaches we are stuck with this cycle of mediocrity. Another average manager will come in, fail to meet expectations, get the usual treatment and we'll pick up another from the sushi belt of available managers at the time. The real issue is much more than managers.
Grind

True dat.

* Sobs *
fartcatcher

I've stopped thinking about promotion now. We don't have the infrastructure within the club to support it. Bates is a property developer and that's how he's run the club.
And although he's not in charge any more his malign spirit still pervades Elland Road. Only when he has completely gone will we revert to being a football club.
All i hope for now is to come up to ER and see a bit of decent football, and maybe a cup run.
