James - La Petit Mort

Nowadays you buy CD and you might be lucky if you get a couple of decent tracks on it. So it's great to buy a CD and it be an exception but there is a but which I will mention later.

The first 5 tracks on this album are classics (in my opinion). Yes there is just a little twang of U2 in there and you know they will sound great blasting out in a stadium but these tracks really do get you going. These are as good as James get - Laid, Sit Down et al. But then we get two very slow lullabies and you are left wondering what has happened to all that energy James exube. And it really doesn't pick up from then on. Yes the last couple of tracks are good, very good but you are left thinking 'come on just give me one more classic before it ends'.

But please don't let this deter you from buying this album. Overall this is a very very good album and well worth being in anyones collection. James do music for summer. Bouncy, catchy and to lift your spirits. A nice partner for the sun that decided to come out on my way to work as I blasted James out on the car hifi.

Buy it now.

The Pixies' new one is class too.

And would you believe it, the Kaisers' has three or four cracking tracks on it too.

So it would've made a good ep then? Not really enough songs for an album. Speaking of shit bands like the Kaiser Chiefs I see that Embrace are going to be doing a curtain raiser gig for the Tour de France at the Leeds Arena. It said on Look North this morning that tickets for the gig are "still available". I fucking bet they are. Fucking Embrace? Give me a fucking break. One of the biggest, most interesting, and exciting sporting events in the world being heralded in my one of the dreariest shite mediocre bands EVER!  They were completely shit when they first came out and I doubt that standard has changed in the intervening years. Knackerknobs. End of dispatch.

Best thing Embrace ever did was 'Gravity'.  Written by Gwyneth's separated one

Kaisers are considerably better, I don't give a flying foo what you think about them Dock as I'm hardly an avid fan
Late Doors

Blimey 5 "classics" on one album sounds pretty good to me. Ive always likes James' slower ones, gives the overall album/gig some textures.  sounds a good album though, not read any other reviews but no doubt ill get it.

They're on my list of bands I like live but hardly ever listen to at home. In fact they are the only band on that list. The ^ Music show last Sunday was good where they played live and chatted and played covers and singles. Totally unique band too, I think. Anyone else you really think they sound like or sounds like them?

I'm a massive Pixies fan but I'm not keen on it. Can't put my finger on why, maybe should give it another go.
