Icons missing

Is it just my computer or is anyone one else having trouble with the site tonight ie missing icons from the side of threads.
bearing

All seems hunky dory here.

Try emptying your cache.  Do you switch your comp off or is it always running?
Fin

What the fuck is a cache? i'm thinking it is not a tasty nut.
I tend to leave it running.

Thats good news, i dont know if you noticed but i just switched Britain off for a moment then and switched it back on. Hopefully that helped.

My Dad switched Britain off once in the 1970's for some other reason and forgot to switch it back on for six months. Ha ha ha. How we laughed.

Switch the fucker off then, well don't just switch it off, obviously close the mardy piece of shite that is Windows down first.

You might want to shoot IE by the way, it's crap.

I'm guessing your comp is a bit full and bloated and could do with a big dump, closing it down should prove a great laxative.
Fin

It's strange i oppened up Reg again, one was fine but the first one was still wonky.
Pl that reminded me off the story Peter Kaye used to tell about his Gran and Sky+.

I've been using Firefox 4 since it was launched a couple of days ago. So I've decided to do a critical review.

It looks a bit different, but basically it appear to do a lot of the same things as before. Only better. Apparently.

So I've been told.

The major difference seems to be related to the tool bar - the text has had some sort glow-in-the-dark-effect applied. And buttons seem smaller and more squidged together.

Oh and some of the add-ons/ extensions I had have been kicked into touch.

So, (in the style of the clueless twat reviewer the world over...) it does what it says on the tin - and for free, who can complain?

*Eddie, can you please get Magda to check the number of words. PC Weekly commissioned 5000 words, and I think might have come up a few letters short.*

My problem with FF nowadays is that it's getting so bloated.
Fin

I have tried various others but keep coming back to I E,sad i know but it does me fine.

It's the Ed Balls of web browsers.

This is a good test for a browser, a browser should score 100/100

That's 'cause it's Apple.  Chrome gets full marks too

It's painful to cut and paste my PL - I put the table together here, then have to scuttle across to use Enigma browser on my PC to successfully post it to LeedsMad.

Prolly doing summat wrong.

I've tried Google Chrome, but found the experience somewhat underwhelming.

I definitely couldn't get what people were raving about it being such a great leap forward - as if it were the Rosetta Stone of internet browsing, if you will.

Google Chrome is super fast, the fastest browser I've ever used.

How has this been validated and confirmed as being a good test for a browser?

Perhaps an apparently obtuse question. But by coincidence, I was chatting to a chap at Rotary today regarding the very early statistics and graph-drawing software packages. People tapped in the numbers and took the results and graphs that came out as gospel. A quick manual check of even the simplest statistics showed that the results were mathematically incorrect.

Ever since I have maintained a basic mistrust of any software that is supposed to "prove" something. The programme can be written to come up with an pre-ordained conclusion it wants. How do you check if it's telling the truth?

Regarding the speed of Google Chrome, I didn't notice any major apparent improvement with what I would use it for.

Mr Bearing - is it particularly advantageous for something you use in particular, say gaming, downloading large files or watching porn in high definition?
bearing

It's great for porn...

FWIW

I've found that Firefox 4 is a great return to the speed it was a couple of years ago (that was the reason I switched to Chrome, the bloat factor slowed it down too much). It's not quite as fast as Chrome but much better than of late.

The downside of Chrome is if you are running an old machine with just the one CPU core then your performance will suffer if you have a lot of tabs open at once (>20 or so in my unstructured tests), due to the way Chrome runs each tab in a new process rather than a thread.

The reason I think I'll stick with Chrome is the ease of searching with keywords. Firefox does something similar but not as seamlessly.

I have no idea why i would need a browser that loads the internet faster than FF. I have seen all those advert for Chrome saying "Tired of waiting for images to load?", not really, i think. It takes less than a second. What am i missing?
