Heyho

I will end up 6ft under or in Armley nick

Bought our house in 2000 primarily because of its location. Overlooks farmers fields and hills in sweet suburbia. Love it. Spent a lot of time and money doing the garden up so I can sit out in an evening in the quietness listening to the wildlife.

So what have I heard. The council are going to issue a compulsory purchase order on the farmer to acquire his land and turn it in to social housing. Funny that seeing as all that land is actually green belt.

End of peace and quiet.

I'm angry. VERY angry. Can feel my blood pressure rising.

I will not go down without a fight. I'm like that. It will end in tears for sure. My tears no doubt.

Organize! NOW!

West Ardsley had planners trying to build on green belt - they organized and as far as I know, they won.  Worth finding out info from them, mate.

RESIDENTS organized, not the bastarding planners.

Thats shit. Not just that you have what sounds very idylic place to be living but the building on green belt is totally out of order and wrong.
Good luck on your organizing and getting your neighbours to stand up to those that want to destroy our countryside.

Done deal. If I'm guessing right the project at Heyho's is probably part of the 66,000 tenancies that Leeds City Council have rubber-stamped for completion before 2028. One of the area's mentioned was Middleton so I'm guessing that's near you HH. Bad luck mate it must be soul-destroying.

It's Woodlesford he's on about.
Heyho

I will be moving back to Beeston at this rate.

Already been in touch with my local MP. He knows nothing about it

Green belt status seems to mean nothing now. Our County Council has plans to build (or allow to be built) 12,500 new houses over the next 15 years. All bar about 500 will be on greenbelt. At the same time they are selling all their brownfield sites to developers for the construction of warehouses and distribution centres.

Doesn't make any sense.

Same difference. It's all bandit country south of The Adelphi.
Late Doors

Oh man that is so shit but tragically so usual. It seems almost unstoppable doesn't it. This need to grow grow grow as if we cannot survive without expanding. Where the fuck will it end?

There was probably a time when someone got pissed-off when your house got initially built or Woodlesford itself on green belt land and now it's the turn of Woodlesford current residents to get pissed-off. It just seems to go on and on.

Each party responsible passing the ultimate responsibility to others. Central government to local government and vice versa. The developers claiming they are fulfilling a market need.  Land owners pleading poverty blaming agricultural policy. A growing population, a so called housing shortage, the rich owning multiple properties living in them only occasionally, the prohibitive costs of redeveloping brown field sites and the necessity to get the economy going with jobs for the building game. It all contributes and eats up our green spaces. It's the one thing that stops me doing the same, it would break me up if it happened to me and I just know how id react. At least in a community with neighbours you can't get that sort of thing happening. On the bright side 66000 additional Leeds tenencies might put a dozen on the gate at Elland road.

Good luck, you have to organise, get together but I suspect it will be hopeless. Get in touch with campaign to protect rural England www.cpre.org.uk/‎ . They are a fine organisation.

They have more chance of compensation though (not that it makes it any better). My house price is likely to drop 10-15% just like that. The chap next door but one paid 20% over the asking price for his house so he could have the view

and cheers Late Doors. Will get in touch with those people
