Grand National 2010 (MCR)

As anyone who reads the racing threads knows, jump racing is not my thing, but looking forward to the bigggest race of the season. This is one race in which a 150-1 shot can leave an 10-1 favourite for dust. Forty horses, over four miles four furlongs. My pound will be going on Black Apalachi ridden by yer man Denis O'Regan. 16-1

The horse i got in the sweep was withdrawn within 10 minutes. Luckily they were kind enough to let me pick another one. Cerium? Don't think it's got much of a chance.

Aintree seems to be turning into Ascot now. Lots of posh birds in silly hats. They must be bussing them in from somewhere down south.

I'm under instructions from MrsD to go into a bookies and put a fiver on Dream Alliance.

It's that long since i've been into a bookies i've forgotten what to do. Do you still have to specify if you want to pay tax on the bet or the winnings

If you are being serious, which I doubt, betting tax was abolished about ten years ago.

I haven't set foot in a bookies for 20 years but yeah i now realised you don't pay tax on a bet. just on everything else.

I went for Vic Venturi and McCoys horse which was 20-1 yesterday morning, unfortunately I got the starting price 10-1, having said that I'm delighted with £50 !

I collected my each way winnings for Black Apalachi, all £4.50 of it. Great National, and dead chuffed for Tony M. Never a man of much emotion, but he couldn't hold the tears back yesterday. Nice one, couldn't happen to a nicer bloke.
