George and Dragon

West Haddlesey, Selby YO8 8QA

Good old pub grub and ale.

Went on a Thursday night when they advertise a 10.00 for three course special.

Downside first though, the G & D is not the tidiest or smartest pub you may find but what you get is quality pub food and VFM.

Ale, choice of the usual stuff plus guest and real ales, I went with the Slatters Brewery (of Stafford don't let that put you off) beer.
"Rich amber coloured beer with hints of caramel, malt and a complex fruity hop aroma developing a bitter finish and balancing the well-rounded 'malty mouthfeel"
Slatters description and I would not argue, nearest pint I have found to traditional Tetleys of yonder years, great session beer, unfortunately we were not in for a real bout of drinking but I did my best.

Food wise, for starters i had chicken goujons with a spicy dip and salad followed by steak pie, chips and veg. All rounded off with an apple crumble and custard desert. My fellow diners all had different meals with no complaint. Every aspect of the courses looked and tasted home made, the crumble and custard was delicious.

All the food was basic but very well cooked and enjoyed by all four of us. Plenty of choice too. Landlord behind the wickets was very welcoming and knew his trade, his missus was mine host for the snap, there was only her waitressing and she did look under pressure but there was no undue delay between courses and most definitely no warmed up pre prepared food.

Mixed bag with the surroundings to the food but we shall be going back.
Late Doors

Sound Alright to me, apart from the Staffordshire Ale that is. Id like to see them clayheads make anything decent to drink Forum Index -> Plankton and Water
