Frankel: The Quickening (MCR)

"Well I have cerntainly never seen or trained a horse like him. He's a total one off"

The words of Henry Cecil after Frankel won the 2000 Guineas last year. When a trainer with as much experience as Cecil says that its time to sit up and listen. But of course, by last year all racing fans knew Frankel was far more than a great racehorse. You can go back as far as you want and look at some of the greats like Nijinski, Sea The Stars, Shergar, Galileo (Frankel's Dad), Brigadier Gerard, and, well any other thouroughbred horse in the long history of racing but Frankel is the like of which that doesnt even come along once in a lifetime. I'm just lucky that I am going to get to see him in my lifetime. Frankel will run in the Juddmonte International at York tomorrow in what will probably be his last race considering his four year old age. He is going for his thirteenth victory in his thirteenth race. Twelve straight wins so far, and a step up in trip from a mile to a mile and two furlongs.

A few months ago Cecil said that it would be more than likely that he would run Frankel at York. As I attend the Juddmonte every year I thought I might as well book my tickets (as always one for Papa Dock) in advance. Glad I did as it seems Frankel's appearence tomorrow has generated approx five thousand extra ticket sales than normal for that day. For weeks I have been trawling the racing news to see if there was any word of him not running at York but no, its game on! A few lads I know who havent been racing in ages have even forked out the much inflated 50 for a county stand ticket. Including Mrs. D's Dad who I will be meeting up with for a pint. I can't fucking wait. I have been like a kid at Christmas for the last month. For some idea of Frankel's speed: Usain Bolt averages 27mph, Frankel averages 42mph. He has been called a monster, a freak, a miracle, and countless other names. One thing is for sure, as can be seen from McKeever Bloodstock's 100 million value estimate of Frankel, he is the fastest and most highly rated racehorse in history, and I'm going to see him in action. Ace! End of dispatch.

Too bad Dock won't be able to see over them.

Brill. Hope you have as good a day as we did yesterday. The racing, the weather, the everything. Best day out I have had at York races for ages.

Fine skills - did he win?

He won alright. By six lengths. Unfeckingbelievable. What a horse. Tom Queally didnt even have to show him the whip. It was like he pushed a button and whoosh, thirteenth consecutive win. Dead glad I got to see him.

next season he gets to shag all the best looking fillies in Newmarket as well.

Fact!

I hope Craggwood had a good day, I taped the racing and it looked like it pissed down. I hope he had his vest on.

it was a good day out

met up at my brother and sisterinlaws house at 12 - their new house is a short walk from the races. Group of six of us with three ladies included. we got loaded up on Pimms and wine while having bacon butties and studying the Racing Post.

Walked across the course to the County Stand. Took a photo of John McCririck and then mugged for the camera as he did a live broadcast - its tradition isnt it?

Then put a fiver on Annunciation and lost in the 2.00 - only race our consortium didn't get a first or an eachway win all day.

Absolutely pissed it down in two half hour spells but we were under cover with a lot of drunk orange women and steaming drunk old boys in hats.

Gee gees were lovely and very fast.

We then left at 5 and went for a barbecue. Once we recovered sufficiently we got a taxi into York and went boozing at Biltmore and Kennedy's.

Went to a hogroast bar for a late night lamb and mintsause sarnie and then we went back for a sleep

Getting paid for 100 shags a year?

While mine is only a hobby, I see that horse Frankel will be making a career of it, albeit in the equine world.

Nice work if you can get it.
Dock

Sheeps would probably only charge the price of a pint. I bet he's mounted a few old nags in his time.
Grind

I bet the nags never finished first though.
Dock

Here she is. Frankel's first born. Born coincidentally on what would've been Henry Cecil's 71st birthday last week. A Bonnie lass if ever there was one. Leggy as hell even at a few days old.
