That they’d better start assembling the boys from the fort
And keep Mrs Honeyman right out of sight
‘Cos there’s gonna be a riot down in Trumpton tonight

Mmm just checked this as I thought it was 1989.

1982 "Super Station Europe" begins broadcasts (mainly intended for cable subscribers in Norway and Finland)
1983 SSE acquired by Rupert Murdoch
1984 SSE rebrands as Sky Channel
1989 5 February — Sky television launches DTH UK services via Astra satellite. 1990 — Sky subscribers reach 1 million.
1990 November — British Sky Broadcasting formed by merger of Sky Television and British Satellite Broadcasting (BSB).

'89 was the Sky platform, Sky itself started the first channel in '84.

I was watching it then along with Screensport and Lifestyle.

Not far off, that and Screensport were both owned by WHSmith. MTV Europe was on there along with Filmnet (home of porn)
