Fitness Trackers

Mrs C wants one for Christmas. Anybody have any knowledge or experience? Not convinced they are not a fad. Having said, things like Mapmyride app is popular among some. The Fitbit 2 seems quite popular.

I didn't want or ask for one, but I got an Apple watch for my birthday back in April.

I don't use all of the features by a long chalk, but I do quite like the logging of "active" calories burned, distance travelled and, perhaps less so, the "stand up you lazy fuck!" reminders that occasionally go off.

I use the various count up/down and stopwatch timers when refereeing and it shows text messages and the bones of emails as they arrive, which is useful, although I'm not an "always on and available" kind of bloke. *

I don't think they're particularly cheap.

* Unless food or beer is involved, obviously.

Thanks was looking at a cheaper model and apparently the Fitbit have a pretty good app.

We have a Fitbit zip here from a few years ago that's not even been taken out of the box (I think it came as a freebee from my wife's work?).

Horses for courses and all that.

I guess with most things, you won't really know until you try?

True. Mrs C doesn't want top of the range. She wants to track rides (phnarr) steps pulse sleep.

Get an app for her phone. I use one called Dog Walk for my android (no jokes please) and it is really good at tracking where you have walked, how fast etc etc. And it can be changed form dog walking to simply walking and bike riding modes. And it's free. My LG phone also has a decent built in fitness app. And they are free lol.

Groupon offer:

Smart Bluetooth Activity Tracker

A watch, pedometer, calorie counter and more in one simple, lightweight tracker that can be worn even when sleeping... more.

12.98

Does the pedometer detect Jimmy Savile type people?
Grind

I'm sure it shouts an alarming, "Now then! Now then! Now then! Now then!"

* How about now then? *

I was going to say you could have the Fitbit gizmo I have here for gratis, but I suspect it's old technology and probably not worth even starting.
