England v poland - a health and safety risk!!!

Quote:
Under FIFA rules, visiting teams are allowed 10 per cent of the seats available in qualification matches.

Given that Wembley holds 90,000, that entitles Poland to 9,000 tickets but the FA has decided to give the Poles 18,000.

Given the huge importance of Tuesday's game, the decision has drawn criticism from some supporters but the organisation says it had to increase the away allocation as it feared Polish fans would end up causing a health and safety risk by buying tickets in the home section.

A health and safety risk - such 21st century political correctiveness.

Was it?

For some reason I have Clemence lodged in my brain as the villain of the piece (couldn't be Norman's fault, obviously).

I'd better go look then.

* And probably apologise....... *
Grind

Duly apologises.

* Clemence was crap too. *

What the fuck was going on last night. 'You're supposed to be at home' springs to mind. The FA allow double the quota for away fans so 18,000+ Polish fans spend 90 minutes drowning out the home support by whistling.

I hope they were from Poland i.e. travelled from there or else it is worth reminding them that this country has taken them in with fairly open arms. I saw it as rather disrespective to be honest.

At least Lidl will have been quiet last night.

Great game though and I actually was, for the first time in years, impressed and proud by the England team.

Agree with Codge. Well, i was impressed but not so much proud.

We have a few Polish/ Eastern Europeans around here for the seasonal work that goes on.
Saw one in the summer wearing an old England top.
Perhaps he felt it would make things easier for him.
Until he spoke..

I like football, and when it's a team that I like more than others there is the possibility that I get a flush of excitement and pride when they work hard and play decently.  It beats war anyway

Must say I agree with you OC. There have been some refreshing performances by new comers, both old and new under Hodgson. It was good to see. Yes a bit raw around the edges in places but some of the clique have now been fully disbanded.

Of course Gerrard did one good thing in the match that will ensure his selection for the foreseeable future. aka John Barnes style

Great match to watch. It's not often you see two teams attacking all out in an international.

Townsend looks brilliant. Not just quick, but good at finding a bit of space so that defenders can release it to him, and a decent passer.

There's no-one better at sliding along on his knees than Gerrard, but he gives the ball away too often. Lampard too slow imo.

Rooney gets up quite well for a little fat bastard.

20,000 Poles probably made for a better atmosphere than we're used to at Wembley.
Grind

To be fair, they probably built it.
