Educating Rita Hull Truck Theatre

It's one of those isn't it. One of those films that is perfectly cast. Michael Caine and Julie Walters. A sum of parts that makes for a definitive version of a story. But Taj Atwal and Simon Armstrong are fantastic in this recent stage adaptation. Armstrong is monumentally likeable as Frank the jaded alcoholic academic and Atwal may not be Julie Walters but her Rita is hilarious and touching. In this no frills two-man one-set play, the technical sparseness accentuates Willy Russell's excellent writing. Funny, economical, and moving. The acting and dialogue are superb. An excellent afternoon at the theatre. This is touring now. I highly recommend going to see it.
