Dope Tests

I reckon Lord Seb Coe is in trouble now before he's even started. Always found him a bit smarmy tbh.

The head honcho in Athletics is still on Nike's payroll. Nike - the same company that sponsors twice banned drugs cheat Justin Gatlin. No conflict of interest there then!

Some quite scary data on this web page about the number of drug violations in the UK. The majority are for Rugby players (League and Union). As this is from a relatively small number of tests (compared with Athletics), it suggests a big problem.

Football has a pretty good record.

Heyho

It does show that the Rugby League are very very keen on such things. And have been for years.

I am not condoning it but in a sport like Rugby it is understandable. A high impact sport takes it toll on the body and players have to do a lot of weights to gain a decent muscle mass to deal with the impacts. Couple this with the fact most will be serious body builderts and you know what comes next - steroids etc.

When I played League a fair few of the lads were on steroids. We'd call them the shrivelled bollock brigade (well we did when we knew the steroids weren't making them angrey). You'd always know who they were - there birds used to turn up with black eyes.

It shows me that there are a lot of rugby players taking drugs.

Nahh. It shows the tests are more stringent.

A lot of it is niavity in Rugby rather than trying to get the upper hand such as in sports like athletics. Often used to speed up the healing of injuries or quick bulking up.

I guess our boys simply didn't take enough this year.

Fucking hell what a life sapping saga this is, Athletics, fucking professional sport in general, corruption, fixing, gambling, drugs, money, sponsorship, advertising, governing cartels, tyrannical private owners and tyrannical presidents.

Trying to "clean up" sport is pissing with a geriatric's prostate pushing trickles of piss through a dick limp with idleness into a wind that has just been elevated to hurricane level. Seb Coe sounds like just the chap, If he wasnít embroiled in it himself. How can he not be. The whole set up is. He and most others would love to do something about it but are powerless against the irrefutable might of the "markets". The market for gambling, the market for power, the market for winning and the market for escapism.

Until we stop watching, stop paying attention to it and stop caring about sport it won't stop and drugs are just one aspect of it. In fact we donít even know what the "drugs" are. The race to produce undetectable performance enhancers is far outstripping the race to detect them. So we either stop watching, legalise everything and let natural events take their course  or increase the funds to contain it, maybe eliminate it but how realistic is that? How realistic is it to ask governments to plough millions into it when most won't even fund local athletics clubs.

If you go to WADA's web site and look at all the current list of banned athletes, it's fucking frightening. Hundreds of them. Russia, India, Turkey and Kenya seem to be the main culprits. It's like any other form of cheating - if the benefits outweigh the risks then people will do it.

I don't think WADA have the resources to sort this out without more money and people.

Still - at least we can be certain that no LUFC players have taken performance enhancing drugs in the recent past.

So although all this shit was going on while he was No 2 in the IAAF, Coe (uniquely) knew nothing about it.

Give us a break.

I remember years ago on SPOTY seeing Coe sat between the prodigiously muscular Fatima Whitbread and Tessa Sanderson. He looked terrified. Surely he must have suspected something.

The Republican race for presidential nomination is the US version.
