David Nobbs, writer

I met this chap a few years ago in Leeds at a tapas bar - the Writers Guild were having a 'union meeting' there, and I used to be a member when I could afford it (100 a year then, might be more).  David Nobbs was the regional 'leader' for the union at the time.  He later became full president I think.

Anyway, I met him and had a good chat with him - and a lovely bloke he was too.  John Cleese's tribute seems perfect from what I gathered about him.  I loved the Reggie Perrin books so was quite in awe - AND I think DN bought me a pint too, as well as saying he'd be buying my books asap.  I'm not sure he did or not but I wasn't doubting his word.

He laso told me some of the Two Ronnies material he wrote but I forget which sketches or 'quips' they were - I have a feeling one was a famous Ronnie Barker word-play sketch.

anyway, I didn't know him v well but I thought I'd post this RIP on here, he seemed a genuinely pleasant chap and a brilliant humorist.

R.I.P. DN. Sounds like a decent bloke. Nice tribute Codge.

Sir Bulldog Craggwood

Got a signed copy of Obstacles to Young Love from him at the Ilkley literature festival a couple of years ago after he did a talk where the microphone was suffering a bad case of deafening feedback

Quite a funny speaker I thought he could've been a comedian/actor himself

Any advance on Harrogate? I'll give anybody who's interested 4/1 that he was born and raised in a clog in Heckmondwike!
