Coventry City

Most of the locals support these lot so they are often one of the main topics of conversation down the Social club (after silage, animal husbandry, shooting things etc).

Coventry is a city of over 300,000. They should be able to sustain a decent football team. Instead, by the end of the season, they may well not have one.
CCFC is owned by dodgy venture capital company Sisu, who want the ground. The ground is owned by ACL (a holding company set up by Cov City Council and a charity - The Higgs Trust), who want the club.

Both are in dire financial straits. CCFC have been late filing accounts for the last three years.

CCFC has paid no rent for a year, in the hope that ACL will go bust and they will be able to buy the ground for peanuts. Cov City council paid out 14m this year to stop  ACL going into administration

Sisu are now trying to play the shell* game to avoid administration themselves. A tactic tried by someone well known to Leeds fans. They are also reported to be interested in taking CCFC to a new venue in a MK Dons stylee.

* companies move assets around through various companies they start up, and if you keep moving things enough it becomes very difficult and complex to find out about who owns what.

On Friday - an artic pulled up and the club shop was emptied, and took it all to the training ground at Ryton. All staff have moved there or been put on gardening leave.
The web site has been closed to online purchases (including match tickets)

Fans very angry - mainly with Sisu, but also with local rag who seem to side with them, despite overwhelming evidence that they are the bad guys.

I do feel sorry for the fans. They haven't had a lot to cheer about and would settle for mediocrity. They are begging the club to go straight into administration and accept the 10 point penalty this year.

Nightmare scenario is liquidation, or 10 points this year and 15 points next year.

Amazing that the FA/FL can just sit and watch all this happen. Have they learnt nothing from what happened at ER?

Serves the twunts right for beating us in 1987.

It is well shabby.
smiling badger

There would have been a time when i would have had a little sympathy for clubs in this situation.
After all the shit that we (LUFC) have had to endure over the last few years and all people did was knock us and beat us down, ie, 15 points scenario and general feeling of 'fuck you' this is how i feel towards other clubs and their problems.
Tis, dog eat dog out there these days.
Fuck em.
Nyles O Cranium

Nah, it's the fans who always suffer and most of them, inc us and inc Cov's, don't deserve such shit.  That FA Cup win of theirs is probably the worst thing that could happen, they started getting big ideas and ambitions beyond their means.

And it's a shit stadium, no kop

I wish em well, never had a problem with Coventry even when they beat us in 87.  Now Charlton, THEY'RE the real c0unts of that season
fartcatcher

Kicked out of their own stadium now. Well technically kicked out of someone else's stadium (see above).

Looking to play home games in Walsall. Locals not happy.
fartcatcher

I know you don't care but i shan't let that put me off.

Sisu - the owners of Coventry City - have now announced that as they have been 'forced' out of the Ricoh stadium (i.e. refused to pay their rent for a year), they are moving elsewhere for a year during which time they will construct a new stadium somewhere in Coventry.

It does make you wonder how mental the owner of a football club has to be before they are declared 'not a fit and proper person'.
sheeps

I care.

They can come play at the Willow Park Arena for a small fee. We have a tea boiler and everything.

Do you mean you have an old boiler who makes the tea?
sheeps

You will never know.

I will pass your kind offer on to Mr Fisher.

There are two remaining. Touch wood.

So Coventry City Football Club has now been sold by the administrators to Otium. Otium owns Coventry City Holdings which owns Coventry City.

Anyway, Bruce is playing at the Ricoh. ACL (who own the ground) will make so much money out of this that they've allowed CCFC to play there for a year for nothing.

Funny old game.

Was up in the vicinity this at 9:30 this morning and fans were already arriving although the concert didn't start until 7:00 pm.

Presumably in order to get parked within a mile of the stadium.
fartcatcher

CCFC off to Northampton now. Locals incandescent with rage.

Hard not to laugh at them.
Late Doors

From one shit stadium to an even shittier one
fartcatcher

Ironic that their most exciting home game for years was played 35 miles away in front of a crowd of about 2000, while the owners of the ground and the owners of the club (neither of whom have any interest in football) continue their extended bout of handbags.

Jimmy Hill, all- seater. Peter Shirtliff fuck 'em.

They did bring us brown football shirts.

As you were.

And there you have it. I would have thought having been through it you would empathise with fans whose club is in the same predicament. What happened to a bit of socialism and standing shoulder to shoulder with your fellow working man and his plight. Didn't football used to be the spectator sport of working people? Dog eat dog is it? What a shame. Opposing fans can all get at each others throats whilst the likes of corporations rip your sporting traditions from under you without you even putting up a fight. British football fans.... the soppiest toothless tiger that ever meowed.

*bangs on and on and on about "football isn't what it used to be blah blah blah"*

This isn't dog eat dog: we're talking about Coventry City here.

It's more like dog eats annoying brown house mouse.

* Fair point, obviously *

At least one has retained his sense of humour.

The only club whose demise has outstripped ours is finally back in it's own stadium. Two year truce agreed between owners of club and owners of stadium.

Massive queues on the M6 on Monday were rumoured to be faithful fans queueing for season tickets, but turned out to be due to a jack-knifed caravan.

They have even started work, albeit ten years late, on the station, which will allow both home and away fans access to the ground without facing a 20 minute walk from the nearest car park followed by gridlock hell.

* Wonders if he should own up about owning a Gary Mac Coventry shirt. *

** Thinks better of it. **
Frazier Cranium

The only club whose demise outstripped ours?

Okay, they won the Cup in 87.

Portsmouth and Luton and even Wimbledon might argue about whose demise was the greatest  Don't you know, Leeds were Champions League semi-finalists little over a decade ago!*

* As if you DON'T know, it's not like it's mentioned every few weeks when Leeds are featured.  And 'someone' probably has half the Leeds shirts from the two-leg tie

A fair cop. I do have one of them.

Good work.  Do youhave any badges from the 70s you are willing to part with?

Was on that Gelderd End site t'other day. Got some great shirts there in his Personal Collection.  I love the '75 Barcelona v LU poster too.  I once had a poster from Shelbourne v Leeds 1991 season, until some bint nicked it.

Weird, I bought the Lucas GK shirt from Mark (who runs the Gelderdend site) about an hour ago!

These are all pretty good if you're interested in shirts worn by the players versus the replicas sold in the club shop (I've acquired rather too many of them!):-

I've got a poster from the '75 European Cup final somewhere that was "liberated" from a telegraph pole in Paris (not by me, sadly) that I should get framed.

What sort of 70s badge are you after? There are usually a few floating on ebay.

I've got a Thistle Hotels keyfob and a mug circa 1992 with a broken handle.

They may be worth little but they mean a lot to me.

That ...matchworn website is a beauty just to look at. I like to look at the shirts but aren't interested in buying as they cost more than a decent holiday

I'm a proper frequenter on ebay, don't worry
