Clarence Dock, Leeds

http://www.clarencedock.com/index.html

Visited here last Friday for the first time with the family and others of our clan. I was amazed at the scale of the place, a lot larger than I thought. A few boozers, restaurants.......and a large Mumtaz, great location for it. I was remarking to the MD that IF you were single, lived in one of the flats (appartments), what a corking time you could have. It's all on your doorstep - Casino, pubs, restaurants and a canal barge trip now and again. A few mor retail outlets have now moved in, Aspecto being one of them.

Worth a trip - 5 to 10 mins walk from the train station.

Asher, I only visited it for the first time a fortnight ago. It is impressive, but even on a Sunday in the summer, it seemed dead. Some of the shops are too exclusive I think. I hope that spending/the economy picks up because it would be a shame for it to stay the ghost town it is at the moment. Re: Mumtaz, Fecking massive isn't it. me and Mrs. D checked the menu, and it looked resonable. We also looked at a letting agents down there, and the flats are dirt cheap.

I lived in Clarence Dock for 18 months when it first opened. Had one of the best apartments with a 220sq ft balcony. Then they withdrew the free parking, the market crashed and it was soon full of students and shop workers. I'm not paying a premium for that so I left. The idea was good, but they have let it slide unfortunately.

Yorkshire Water have confirmed they will be opening a huge office there with 500 workers, so that should help CD a bit with footfall in the shops and bars.

It's a shame La Rocca closed, lovely bar and great food in the restaurant. I still have the residents 15% discount card.
