Cheltenham Et Al - The Best of Alistair Down

Alistair Down has been a racing journalist for the Racing Post and The Sporting Life for many years. He was also a regular pundit on CH4 Racing up until a few years ago. This is a collection of articles he has penned over the years, mainly for the RP. Alistair is one of the older school of sports journalists and many of these brilliant anecdotes start with him and other hacks having a few "liveners" (usually paid for on expenses). Along with razor sharp wit he entertains the reader by his sheer passion for racing and he's especially fond of The Cheltenham Festival (hence the title). A great book and I can't think of another sportswriter as eloquent that articulates the very best and worse of his chosen subject.

I wonder which three horses he'd pick for:-

Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes (British Champions Series)  -  3:30pm, Newmarket  -  Saturday 3 October 2015

Qatar Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe  -  2:55pm, Longchamp  -  Sunday 4 October 2015

* Jiggered if I know, but I'm supposed to be picking some!

Not having a bet this weekend but some cracking racing on this weekend. The Arc is going to be one of the races of the season. Can't wait, and lengthy coverage on CH4 12.30- 4pm. Ace!

Newmarket race you mentioned today, I fancy Irish Rookie. It's been lightly campaigned this season and he could go well today. And in the Arc I wouldn't like to pick one. All eighteen runners look formidable. I'd love Treve to win it, just because it'd be a history-making third consecutive win of the same race by the same horse. Go on then I'll go with Free Eagle. he was very unlucky in The Irish Champion Stakes and I think he's got the gears for tomorrow.
Late Doors

*puts retirement fund on Free Eagle*
