Challenge Cup Final 2015

What a great day out. Caught the 7:43 from Wakefield Kirkgate and 2 bottles of Hooch (an early morning appertif) plus a couple of bottles of Corona (with lime) plus some good humoured banter with some Leeds fans and we were soon in London.

Straight away on the Tube to the Wetherspoons at Baker Street full of RL fans from every club going. A couple of beers there and I thought Mrs H would like a more classy place so we got the Tube to Queens Park. Sadly despite it being 11:35 we were told the bar didn't serve alcohol until 12 noon. No problem, back on the Tube to Wembley Central

The Tube terminated one stop early but I thought it wouldn't be an issue as there MUST be a pub. Ermmmmm no. It was like the land time forgot. Whats more I was dying for a piss. And I mean dying!!! So I ran off leaving Mrs H in my wake. 30 minutes later I found me first establishment - a bookies so I sneaked in there for a piss. Had to put a bet on as well - a fiver for a piss!!!! Put it on Leeds winning by 30 points. What a waste lol

Anyway met back up with Mrs H and came across this Indian that was also a pub/bar. Whats more it had the LUFC match on. Got sat with a loads of Hull KR fans and had a great time. Never made it to the Greem Man seeing as a bottle of Corona and a Vodka and Diet Coke was only 6. Great atmosphere - especially the 2-1 win as well. God knows how many rounds we had and then it was off to Wembley. Can of Holsten Pils in hand we walked up to Wembley.

Great seats in the stadium, great atmosphere and a great result if you were a Leeds fan (if not the game of RL). Missed the after match presentation as I wanted to get to a Blues Bar just off Carnaby Street. Time was getting on when we got there so only managed one drink and then it was back to Kings Cross.

Must say the train home was painful. Some knob head boring Leeds fan on next table wouldn't shut up. ll he did for 2 hours was boast about his money. Plonker. And he got off at Sunny Donnie lol

But hey, that didn't dampen a great day.

Got a feeling Leeds wont be there for a few years again (a swan song) but hey, what a great day out.

They hammered them didn't they. Glad you managed to squeeze in some sport between the boozing. I spoke to Papa Dock (Wakey, not Haiti) and asked him why he thought it had been such a slaughter and he reckons that the Wembley stage knocks a lot of players off balance and the Leeds players have been there and are veterans of playing on such a big day way more than HKR.

I think Mr Dock snr speaks a lot of truth there but Leeds are on a high at the moment as well. Whether they can sustain it and win the treble is, to me, unlikely. Maybe win the League Leaders shield but not the Grand Final

Who's going to stop them?

Worst final I have ever seen, one journalist described it as the worst in the history of the Challenge Cup. Not too shabby for Leeds fans though.

Yeah, right on both counts, though Wigan took the level down a few times eh.

Wigan could stop them - they are as 'good' on their day. I use the word 'good' reservedly because teams play to their own strengths and Wigans strengths do not include flair and flowing Rugby League unlike the likes of Saint Helens.

In fact very few teams have that creativity and flair preferring to use a bigger presence in the centre of the field.

Nice one H. Still a tradition for us to go down for the weekend although a thirty strong coach trip for the full bank holiday weekend is now a train trip on Friday for five of us coming back straight after the game. 38 in a row now, first one still the best game when Leeds pipped Saints.

Stopped in Farringdon this time and what a great little spot it is. Some terrific pubs, the Exmouth arms, Jerusalem tavern, Clerkenwell Craft Beer Co. Old Red Cow, all coutesy of our old mate Higgs Boson's recommendations and a couple of others.

Saturday was the usual.  Brekky somewhere. London is choc full of cafes that do great good value breakfasts then a walk to the fantastic Masons Arms near Warren St tube. We just can't do with the hordes anymore and this pub is perfect. Sky TV, great ale, quiet and on the metropolitan fast tube line to Wembley.

Used to be tens of thousands of neutrals but these days it's very much the two teams. We were in the Hull end though there were also Leeds fans around. We all knew what was going to happen. The writing was on the wall after Hull KR beat Warrington in the semi when they celebrated as if they had won it. Got to credit the mighty rhinos though, perfect game plan perfectly executed all over the pitch by all players.
Don't recall anyone saying last years FA Cup final Was the worst ever when Arsenal wiped the floor with Villa.

Anyway, had a great craic, got the train back and the five of us were in the Sportsman  for half nine toasting Ged the Red's last one before he sets of to NZ and Australia for a year. He might get to see a decent game or two over there. Shame he'll miss the Giants winning it next year though.

Scum v millwall was possibly the worst ever FA Cup Final, LD

Did I understand that right, you have been to 38 Challenge Cup Finals in a row??
Late Doors

Yep, First one Leeds v Saints 78. Although i went down for the weekend and came back for the day in 92 for the Norwich Game, then went back down again. So  i havent seen all the games.
Frazier Cranium

Still some achievement!

My Dad Cawd Bless Him, managed a few in the 70s with Leeds.  And he brought me a prezzie back one year, an LP oddly enough - ELO 'New World Record' in red vinyl

Yes a great achievement LD. Probably done about half a dozen now including one neutral - that Hudderfield mis match at Twickenham

Some bloke had a T-shirt on saying 55 challenge cup finals on the trot so you've a bit to go yet.

I've just remembered I gave this elderly Hunslet fan a ticking off for wearing a Hull KR scarf and he got really annoyed. Leeds have killed Hunslet he shouted then he went to tell all the pub what a twat I was lol

Why shouldn't he support the team of his choice?

Hunslet are his team and they weren't playing.

So for one game he wanted HKR to win.
Frazier Cranium

'Wanting' is different to supporting though - you asked the question, not me
