Brain stuff

Not sure if this is universal, but I seem to need longer than I think is normal to process roman numerals.

As you'll already know from my unhealthy interest in pointless Leeds m/w shirts, I'm a bit of a collector (a.k.a. hoarder) and I also like to pick up official pins (enamel badges, to you and me) that have been issued (i.e. not for sale) from the day of the Super Bowl to the likes of security, players, alumni.

Some are a little strange, to say the least:-

Anyway, I "restrict" myself to those games that have involved the Patriots - which isn't much of a restriction as they've been to more than most (confirming LD's Manu comparison elsewhere).

Specifically, 20 (XX), 31 (XXXI), 36 (XXXVI), 38 (XXXVIII), 39 (XXXIX), 42 (XLII), 46 (XLVI), 49 (XLIX) and now 51 (LI).

Even though I've been doing this for a while, I have to stare to work out the number to make sure I've got the right game.

Each Super bowl has its own logo (this is America, stuff has to be sold!), which helps to confirm the number.

Obviously, there aren't too many places where we routinely come across roman numerals (mostly TV show or film credits, dated architecture and grave stones), so perhaps it's understandable they have to be worked out, but it bothers me that my brain is unable to do it as quickly as I'd like.

* Least of worries, obviously.

* Wonders why he even typed this out. *

Speaking of bastard stuff to work out.

It still is only six sided, but I've just been given a 7x7 square "Rubik" type cube and have been told that an 8x8 version also exists.

* Grind's head explodes

Here's a picture of the bugger:-

I'm guessing it can't be as conceptually difficult as the initial solving of the original 3x3 cube (which took me forever and a bloody day), simply based on the 4x4 cousin.

This isn't getting any work done, is it?
Heyho

Jesus you need to get out more. Maybe there's a XI aside or even a V aside football team knocking around for you
Frazier Cranium

Wondering why.

I struggle to remember why I went upstairs. This is doubly worrying as I am living in a flat.

It doesn't have a prior Hungarian owner, does it?

I was alright until my eldest told me walking through a doorway made you forget things. I seem to have dedicated my life to proving this to be true. Wish she'd never told me.

My sister had a "growth" removed from her brain on Wednesday. We are very close. Also have 2 brothers but they are cunts.

Apparently it went well and they got most of it out. Not sure when the test results will be back and don't know how much of a recovery she will make. #prayforjayne

Yikes! All the best to her (and you) and let's hope she recovers as soon as possible.

Same for the brothers, obviously, but I'm not meaning that in a funny way. as I'm sure you're rightfully worried about your sister and how she'll fare.

Maybe this will wake them up and see the error of their ways?

All the best to Jayne.

I share your mild concern G. I like to read the numerals at the end of a filum to get the release date. Can only read the last two now so have to guess the decade. Not the century though, I can figure that one out.

All the best for Sis Carp

Hope she is well.

I've always tried to channel my not-so-inner nerd and, much like the obligatory daily walking of the dog (i.e. me), I also attempt to solve a new puzzle thing every day and now definitely think the old brain box is going - perhaps not the mathematical/paper logic stuff, but I seem to be taking much more time to solve spatial problems. Bugger.

I've been noodling around with some Hanayama cast metal puzzles and this one is beginning to annoy me, and it's only a level 4 (out of six):-

* goes back to looking for LD's clock radio at the tip. *

Hopefully the sister is doing well.

I'm not going to click on the hint tab though........

Went to see her today. She is doing very well thanks. Got a scar on her head like something out of a Frankenstein movie. Her face looks like she has done 15 rounds of hand bagging with Dock and FC 😋. The lump has been analysed and is ganglionic summat...So benign. All in all good progress. Thanks.

Benign is good.

You'll hopefully be taking the piss out of her again in no time then.

Fingers crossed!

Weird.

I tooled about for a few hours when I first posted about the Hanayama thing, got a bit frustrated and so left it for a week or so.

Came back to it yesterday whilst watching that epic Barcelona v PSG match only to "solve" it within five minutes.

I've now concluded it isn't particularly tricky after all and I should've been able to solve it without any fuss the first time around.

Weird.

The brain works in mysterious ways.
